they're really pretty amazing, what they do. but....the food is SO heavy. if i have a full lunch from there i feel sick afterwards

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 18:38 (fourteen years ago) link

I've heard their burgers are really excellent - have you tried one? I think they set up for all the Mariners games, will have to mosey over that way maybe.

Corn pancakes sound A+++

jaq, Friday, 24 July 2009 18:44 (fourteen years ago) link

the burgers ARE excellent, i've had them 3x, i'd be curious to know what you thought. i think it's maybe some kind of carmelized onion something on top. OMG. very very very heavy though, i didn't eat dinner any of the times i had one for lunch. people also complain about skillet's cost but that doesn't bother me so much, not when Metropolitan Market is my #1 grocery store.

i DID see them around before a mariners game. oh here http://www.skilletstreetfood.com/calendar.htm
they should do something with the light rail, set up at SODO or c. city or rainier beach

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 18:56 (fourteen years ago) link

oooh they will be here next friday, too. perhaps i will try this!

te,he (tehresa), Friday, 24 July 2009 19:44 (fourteen years ago) link

would anyone care to try the zig zag lounge soon?
the bartender is highly recommended.
it's on the pike place hill climb. i hope it's not a tourist trap!

te,he (tehresa), Friday, 24 July 2009 22:39 (fourteen years ago) link

i would love to! stuff at the market's fun imo, and i don't mind a few tourists.

i'm out of town through August 2nd, but after that let's plan on it. also, light rail drinks columbia city trip plzzz

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 22:42 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't know what that means but ok!

why do you keep leaving us, jergs :(

te,he (tehresa), Friday, 24 July 2009 22:43 (fourteen years ago) link

i am a very busy important person

Yes! THere's also a good Mexican place (El Quetzal) and a Filipino point-point place I want to try near the Beacon Hill station.

jaq, Friday, 24 July 2009 22:53 (fourteen years ago) link

is it called that because you point at what you want to order?

lxy, Friday, 24 July 2009 23:16 (fourteen years ago) link

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 23:17 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah yeah jaq, we want to explore around each of the stations! i guess around othello there's a great vietnamese bakery, tammy bakery. hey, maybe you've gone there? i've heard rumor about the beacon hill mex connection. and that's the station i most want to explore.

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 23:20 (fourteen years ago) link

yep, it's sort of cafeteria style.

That list is making me want to pack up and head home right now jergins. also need to stock up on gin for the coming heatwave.

Haven't been to Tammy - we lived closer to the Rainier Beach station (which, there isn't much there but a super p-patch and a gigantic buddha - okay pho place if you walk all the way over to Rainier though also donut king) and didn't explore as much as we should have. it was really great to ride down MLK on those smooooooth rails after living through all that destruction/construction.

jaq, Friday, 24 July 2009 23:26 (fourteen years ago) link

baltimore is supposed to get a new light rail line but people in one neighborhood are complaining that it will be 'too loud', also why can't i just drive a car

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 24 July 2009 23:42 (fourteen years ago) link

it makes me sad to think about, that a small, vocal group of condo owners would destroy public transit for all

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 24 July 2009 23:44 (fourteen years ago) link

living in places that are still trying to figure this out (here we've had 1 million stupid nimbys with the same sort of complaints) is kind of wrenching. i'd like to live in a city where this stuff is finished and established.

jergins, Friday, 24 July 2009 23:49 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah. it's alright because i'm fine with buses but it would be more efficient/less crowded even if light rail seems a little bit cumbersome compared to metro. we have one metro line and one light rail line! it's kind of funny. i like the metro but it doesn't really go anywhere i need to go. it's just a fun ride.

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 24 July 2009 23:55 (fourteen years ago) link

it doesn't really go anywhere i need to go. it's just a fun ride.

This is the Seattle light rail, for me. I will ride it to the different neighborhoods for fun, and def to the airport when that part is finished. But sadly no real use for me, day to day.

jaq, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:09 (fourteen years ago) link

I have tried to talk Mr. Jaq into riding it south for 2 stops, then hopping off with his bike for the rest of his ride to work. But he would rather just ride his bike the whole way.

jaq, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:10 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm totally ready to move, guys. does seattle have like, small outlying towns, not too far from big-city stuff? i'm ready for a small town, and an old house, and a backyard and a dog. and not always stressing about being mugged/raped/murdered.

smoove operator, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:17 (fourteen years ago) link

most useless light rail: buffalo's subway. unless you go to ub i guess?

smoove i bet you could find that! you could even get a house w/ backyard and dog in the city. i read there have been only 11 murders in seattle so far this year (but 4 in the last week oh my!).

te,he (tehresa), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:40 (fourteen years ago) link

i think we have 11 murders per day here

smoove operator, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:42 (fourteen years ago) link

i love that bus routes here actually get you where you want to go, though. the routes seem to make way more sense than in nyc.

te,he (tehresa), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:43 (fourteen years ago) link

the other day i got cut off by this dude on a scooter, and without even thinking i just shook my head in a stern way at him and then he followed me: stopped behind whenever i stopped, then i pulled over (on my bike) so i could cross this busy street to a separate bike path round the lake, and he pulled over right behind me and sat there staring at me for ages as i crossed and road off. then of course i got terrified he was gonna follow me home, where i would be completely screwed, since ytth was out of town and i have no friends i could call to come babysit me. to add to that, the neighbourhood i work in is so crime-ridden, every day i sit there basically waiting for my turn to get robbed.

sorry, emo blog post :/

smoove operator, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:45 (fourteen years ago) link

this is a seattle thread, not an oakland-is-a-poohole thread

smoove operator, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:45 (fourteen years ago) link

i think you should definitely move here.

te,he (tehresa), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:46 (fourteen years ago) link

lol @ 11 murders

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:46 (fourteen years ago) link

is that even real? how?

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:46 (fourteen years ago) link

baltimore has 127

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:47 (fourteen years ago) link

i know you can't put an apostrophe in a url but the lack of apostrophe in "seattles" is driving me nutso right now!

jergins, Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:51 (fourteen years ago) link

wait are all of seattle's murders random like that?

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:53 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean obv they aren't random to the people involved but it seems non-systemic in a way, to me

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 25 July 2009 00:54 (fourteen years ago) link

those are the ones that get the press, of course, but on the whole i'd say no. it seems like most of the terrible things that happen here are the drug deals gone bad/gang stuff, like anywhere

jergins, Saturday, 25 July 2009 01:04 (fourteen years ago) link

baltimore has 127

nuts

jergins, Saturday, 25 July 2009 01:04 (fourteen years ago) link

oh ok. i guess i knew that. drugs.

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 25 July 2009 01:05 (fourteen years ago) link

ok so apparently there have only been 13 murders so far (altho that's just oakland - 400,000 ppl - and doesn't include all the cities that border us directly).

violent crimes: 1349

i live in that hole in the middle, it's really not as bad as it looks i swear

smoove, Seattle has small towns on islands!!! And you can just hop on a ferry and get to the city.

jaq, Saturday, 25 July 2009 02:10 (fourteen years ago) link

^way to do it imo

jergins, Saturday, 25 July 2009 02:11 (fourteen years ago) link

t. silaviver, Saturday, 25 July 2009 04:32 (fourteen years ago) link

and it's just getting worse. i dunno, i've been feeling really down about it lately, probably just a phase. i think it's a lot to do with have an annoying anxious nature anyway, living in a dodge 'hood just brings out the worst of it.

smoove operator, Saturday, 25 July 2009 04:39 (fourteen years ago) link

just move here; you will feel better.

cool! I couldn't figure out what the sodo symbol was from the handouts we got. I light-railed twice yesterday, from dragon to opera glasses and back.
