ugh WORST moving day on friday

it took us 3.5 hrs to get from NJ to brooklyn in the pickup truck, which was terrible because ari had an interview that afternoon so instead of spending the afternoon packing and loading beforehand she basically showed up, packed 2 boxes and had to go, i had to enlist some bros to go way above and beyond their duties as friends to help me pack and load and it took forever and they were pretty annoyed with me by the end BUT we ended up getting all of the shit into the truck so it only took 1 trip AND ari got the job which is just a crummy tutoring gig but its a job nonetheless

and since most of the crap in the apartment was aris and not mine i was really afraid of throwing anything away so i brought home probably 2 boxes worth of stuff she didnt want saved--also she accused me of breaking her lamp but we all know it was already broken

THE REALY WORST BIT THO is that we moved out this weekend because we thought we had gotten out of our lease early since another man was going to come move into the apartment and sign a lease from august first but we found out this morning that the guy has backed out and no longer wants to move in for the first so unless we can find someone who wants to sign a year long lease or sublet an empty apartment for one month were on the hook for august! which doesnt really save us any money at all!!!

there is a cute little one bdrm cottage right behind our apartment building that has become available, even has a miniature front yard and a really private back patio that looks out on trees and shit. ytth wants to move, and so do i, but even just thinking about the hassle of moving makes me feel sick ;_;

max, that does sound like a miserable day. This is the first year we won't be moving since Mr. Jaq and I (have moved 10 times in the past 9 years), because I signed a 2 year lease. I'm still looking at craigslist all the time though.

pretty much. Though I don't especially like the trauma of the actual process, I do like pruning out the stuff to donate/pitch, the thrill of the hunt for a new place, and getting everything set up once the move is done. But the idea of staying where we are for now is also very appealing (as long as no one moves into the unit above us, which may not happen for awhile in this economy...knock wood).

i used to be like you, jaq! i think i will not move for a while because a) moving is $$$ b) this place ain't so bad c) i have not even reallllllly moved all the way in yet!

although every day i walk down the street and look at all these beautiful buildings and think 'oh i want to live there!' like this one with a fountain in front. a fountain!

my friend moved into my apartment in ohio and she said the other night she went to a bar a couple blocks away and a guy caught up with her on the way home and followed her to the outside door leading upstairs and wouldn't leave, then tried to hold it so it wouldn't lock. ugh. now i feel like, why did i move somewhere more dangerous? barf.

yikes! i'm glad you don't live in that apt anymore, though!
i like to think of danger as relative. in your current location, won't there be more people around on the street to deter things like that from happening?

Dude Croatia is going to be exciting. i like that the sandbox is taking late-summer vacations.

nothing bad ever happened to me there though, that's why i'm like whoa. but yeah there are more people out at night around here and i am a lot less likely to walk around alone. there i did too many times. it was a quiet-ish residential neighborhood. also aggravated by the fact that she didn't scream at him because she was drunk and just wasn't thinking, she just kind of scolded him she said. so creepy.

i do! i'm in new york now but i will go back soon. my bed has not arrived yet. it will be even better after that, and when i can afford more furniture. i got a table from used furniture store and i got 2 lamps from value village but that's about it. i also need some curtains. but i am loving how big it is!

i need a car to get to a hardware store or something. shipping those things is expensive.

overstock.com has them more expensive than other places but shipping is just 2.95 for your entire order! i want to buy hundreds and can stuff but i don't have a pressure cooker. all i can make is pickles and tomato sauce w/o that :-/

also whytf are curtains so expensive????

i am sitting here internetting and some college-aged kids seem to be snooping around and a girl climbed the stoop and looked in, and i looked at her and she said to her friend "oooh look there's a person!" and ran away. i really need curtains.

you can make them pretty easily!
