for some reason i think the knit stuff looks cool but i've never been inspired to take it up.

my friend made these two for wedding presents, they're nice but i don't like round blankets and they are too lacy and old-fashioned—looking for my taste (bc i am always up to date)

smoove operator, Monday, 20 July 2009 01:03 (fourteen years ago) link

round blankets are useless

jergins, Monday, 20 July 2009 01:06 (fourteen years ago) link

oh neither am i--i first learned like 6 years ago and was so bad at it, i kept forgetting how and starting stuff over because i didn't know how to fix mistakes but in the past year or so i'm getting better. starting is a big hurdle but after you get knit and purl down you can do anything: cabling, lace, etc. anything! the possibilities are *endless* xp

i have a huge, huge, huge afghan my great-grandmother crocheted. theresa might have seen it when she was here but i didn't point it out. it's bright neon orange, puke green, and yellow. she used to just crank them out but was really tacky (greek) so she made interesting color choices. it's also acrylic so it will never be destroyed.

spite n ease (harbl), Monday, 20 July 2009 01:09 (fourteen years ago) link

the yellow is not really yellow, it's more "mustard"

spite n ease (harbl), Monday, 20 July 2009 01:10 (fourteen years ago) link

i love that combo! it makes me nostalgic for my parents' poor decorating choices when i was a kid.

my friend's mom made me a gorgeous afghan a couple of years ago and there was wool leftover so she made a surprise little afghan for my dog<3<3.

estela, Monday, 20 July 2009 01:29 (fourteen years ago) link

jergins, Monday, 20 July 2009 01:31 (fourteen years ago) link

estela, Monday, 20 July 2009 01:36 (fourteen years ago) link

smoove operator, Monday, 20 July 2009 01:39 (fourteen years ago) link

my father taught me how to knit when i was 5 and during the lesson i made sexist remarks and questioned his manhood.

gis safe search off isn't helping

jergins, Tuesday, 21 July 2009 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link

an afghan is just a knitted or crocheted blanket basically. they are often hideous (except estela's gorgeous one). i think you would recognize one if you saw it

spite n ease (harbl), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 03:16 (fourteen years ago) link

it took us 3.5 hrs to get from NJ to brooklyn in the pickup truck, which was terrible because ari had an interview that afternoon so instead of spending the afternoon packing and loading beforehand she basically showed up, packed 2 boxes and had to go, i had to enlist some bros to go way above and beyond their duties as friends to help me pack and load and it took forever and they were pretty annoyed with me by the end BUT we ended up getting all of the shit into the truck so it only took 1 trip AND ari got the job which is just a crummy tutoring gig but its a job nonetheless

max max max max, Monday, 27 July 2009 14:12 (fourteen years ago) link

and since most of the crap in the apartment was aris and not mine i was really afraid of throwing anything away so i brought home probably 2 boxes worth of stuff she didnt want saved--also she accused me of breaking her lamp but we all know it was already broken

max max max max, Monday, 27 July 2009 14:13 (fourteen years ago) link

THE REALY WORST BIT THO is that we moved out this weekend because we thought we had gotten out of our lease early since another man was going to come move into the apartment and sign a lease from august first but we found out this morning that the guy has backed out and no longer wants to move in for the first so unless we can find someone who wants to sign a year long lease or sublet an empty apartment for one month were on the hook for august! which doesnt really save us any money at all!!!

max max max max, Monday, 27 July 2009 14:15 (fourteen years ago) link

LYFE!!!!!!

max max max max, Monday, 27 July 2009 14:15 (fourteen years ago) link

there is a cute little one bdrm cottage right behind our apartment building that has become available, even has a miniature front yard and a really private back patio that looks out on trees and shit. ytth wants to move, and so do i, but even just thinking about the hassle of moving makes me feel sick ;_;

smoove operator, Monday, 27 July 2009 15:54 (fourteen years ago) link

max, that does sound like a miserable day. This is the first year we won't be moving since Mr. Jaq and I (have moved 10 times in the past 9 years), because I signed a 2 year lease. I'm still looking at craigslist all the time though.

jaq, Monday, 27 July 2009 16:09 (fourteen years ago) link

oops. since Mr. Jaq and I met

jaq, Monday, 27 July 2009 16:10 (fourteen years ago) link

you are addicted to moving!

smoove operator, Monday, 27 July 2009 16:14 (fourteen years ago) link

pretty much. Though I don't especially like the trauma of the actual process, I do like pruning out the stuff to donate/pitch, the thrill of the hunt for a new place, and getting everything set up once the move is done. But the idea of staying where we are for now is also very appealing (as long as no one moves into the unit above us, which may not happen for awhile in this economy...knock wood).

jaq, Monday, 27 July 2009 16:19 (fourteen years ago) link

max where did you move?

i used to be like you, jaq! i think i will not move for a while because a) moving is $$$ b) this place ain't so bad c) i have not even reallllllly moved all the way in yet!
