that's really nice but actually there are leftovers so it's not gone!
also the salmon wasn't that great (still adapting to electric stove ps that is a panko wasabi crust).

leftover fish can bring endless joy if you break it up into bite-sized bits and mix it into a pot of (already cooked) couscous.

I've cooked salmon on a foreman grill a bunch of times. it comes out nicely, though if you're not careful it can end up overly dry b/c too much of the juice tends to leak into the drip tray. I don't really know my way around an electric stove either.

i am scared my next apt might have an electric stove. i hate them :(
salmon looks good. what's in the middle? bok choy?

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 3 July 2009 10:33 (fourteen years ago) link

hey lxy

i need some advice on paint/paper combos - the idea i have is for a particular kind of concertina binding, and i want to sort of sponge paint all along one side of the paper, but i think i want it to be quite thick and textured. do i need to worry about the paint soaking into the paper? should i get particular paper/particular weights of paper? what type of paint?

i've never done this before so i'm a little nervous

this too shall pass

estela, Sunday, 5 July 2009 21:19 (fourteen years ago) link

harbl, how are your hands now?

ruby, i'm not an expert on what you're asking, however my intuition is that if you're using a heavy, textured paper you want one with a lot of sizing so it's less porous. and/or use a heavy paint that won't bleed or soak into the paper. what kind? dunno.

probably you want to ask at your art store, though, for a better answer than my half-assed guesswork.

lxy, Sunday, 5 July 2009 23:40 (fourteen years ago) link

my hand feels almost all the way better. i bought a large quantity of jalapeƱos though. i hope i will use them all for something

spite n ease (harbl), Sunday, 5 July 2009 23:43 (fourteen years ago) link

smoove operator, Monday, 6 July 2009 06:12 (fourteen years ago) link

this reminds me to buy turmeric.
it's funny, when stocking a kitchen, how you forget about valuable spices like turmeric. they can really add a lot!

harbls, did you have a cut on your hand that sliced the jalapeno?

tehersa (tehresa), Monday, 6 July 2009 10:42 (fourteen years ago) link

no visible cuts but maybe my hands are dry and have tiny ones

spite n ease (harbl), Monday, 6 July 2009 10:52 (fourteen years ago) link

spite n ease (harbl), Monday, 6 July 2009 10:57 (fourteen years ago) link

smoove, that looks great. It reminds me of the vintage tourist photo/postcard books. Do you make the hand-laid paper (if that's what it is - it looks like it on my monitor) too?

jaq, Monday, 10 August 2009 21:17 (fourteen years ago) link

thanks!

nope, we don't make the paper (the books would probably take us a year to make, if we did), we just hunt around at art supply stores. that decorative paper is actually made with banana leaves.
