I have never played Golden Tee but I enjoyed playing the video bowling game at Piece with Eric and others on Sarah's birthday.

Hey! ILX2 has started doing un-American dates again.

I kind of have a love-hate relationship with marching. I liked it in high school, but our school sucked. The Southern bands and some drum corps stuff can be killer, but I'm way sick of people coming up at Digd0wn shows assuming we all must have come from the UW marching band (no one did).

JordanC (JordanC), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:11 (seventeen years ago) link

My fingernails are really nice right now. I don't like clear nail polish on men, but I really do like buffed nails; it really helps make a man look put together, or helps complete a nice look.

buffed males

JordanC (JordanC), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I could probably do New Orleans style marching, where you're all kind of doing your own thing. But then again, maybe not, since I have no rhythm and would be the one doing the Elaine dance while holding a trumpet.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I buffed my tail too.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:14 (seventeen years ago) link

We don't march so much as...amble. And sometimes stumble.

JordanC (JordanC), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm audi, stay famous Chicago. I've got the cigar-smoking Elk's Club bachelor party tonight.

JordanC (JordanC), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I think I once described the Go! Team's "Junior Kickstart" as Sonic Youth jams with the Grambling State marching band.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:18 (seventeen years ago) link

See ya guys. I'm playing Schubas tonite. Show will probably sell out, so get there early if you want to see us.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Amanda, I cry too -- I get a little choked up out of pride, at so many straight backs and chins up and everyone making a conscious choice to temporarily conform, and conform MIGHTILY, for the good of the group because they can only exist as a group. SEE, I'M PRACTICALLY OVERWROUGHT ALREADY!

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeeeeah, marching band dork over here.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 22 February 2007 23:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Are you sure it's not some sort of residual "American Pie" trauma bubbling to the surface?

danno martinez (danno martinez), Friday, 23 February 2007 00:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Positive. First of all I've never seen the movie all the way through, it annoys the shit out of me. Second, I've had this little problem since, like, sixth grade.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 23 February 2007 00:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh shit, sorry, I meant the song. Fuck that movie.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Friday, 23 February 2007 00:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Fuck that song too, but it references a marching band, is pretty nostalgic, etc...

Before I go downloading it, is this the Obama '04 campaign song? "BARACK ... BARACK OBAMA ... OOH HE'S STRONGER THAN A ROCK"? That one?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 February 2007 06:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes.

Laurel, that's totally the reason. Also loud horns and uniforms and bombastic tunes. My psychotherapist friend (friend who has become a psychotherapist not therapist-and-friend) believes it's a form of homesickness. She thinks homesickness (for a "home" real or imagined, physical or emotional) is behind a lot of people's overwhelming sadness/depression/self-destruction/angst. I'm not sure if this is a popular theory among modern psychotherapists or just her particular thing because I know nothing about modern psychotherapy apart from what she tells me.

PS My old roomie, the one of Passed Out Naked in the Backyard fame, used to call me "band camp girl" behind my back. I DID NOT APPRECIATE THIS on several levels. 1) Not original, not funny. 2) Not true. 3) Pardon the fuck out of my exuberance, you crazy, lazy, boring hunk of waste.

How was the date, JESSE???

I hope it doesn't show
It'll go 'way
It's just a passing phase
It'll go 'way

You can dress nautical
Learn to tie knots
Take lots of Dramamine
Out on your yacht
But when you're all alone
And nothing bites
You'll wish you stayed at home
With someone nice
But when you think you made it disappear
It comes again, "Hello, I'm here" and
I've got angst in my pants

You can be smart as hell
Know how to add
Know how to figure things
On yellow pads
Answer so no one knows
What you just said
But when you're all alone
You and your head
What's the computer say, it's mumbling now
It says "hey Joe"
It's spelled it out and
"You've got angst in your pants"
"You've got angst in your pants"

But when you think you've made it disappear
You're sure you made it disappear
And you've still got angst in your pants

I hope it doesn't show
It'll go 'way
It's just a passing phase
It'll go 'way
I hope it doesn't show
It'll go 'way
Give it a hundred years
It won't go 'way
And I've got angst in my pants
I've got angst in my pants

I love drum lines the way that you love marching bands, Amanda, with the same goose bumps/uncontrollable tearing up. I was in marching band for a bazillion years and pretty much hated it. But drum cadences get me all crazy, especially HBCU drum lines because DAMN. They are just awesome. Even that stupid Cadillac commercial makes me all excited.

is "angst in my pants" a n/a original?

PORNTIPSGUZZARDO (kenan), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Unfortunately not, it's a Sparks song.

n/a (n/a), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm confused - that's dated for the show we went to, but the pics are clearly not from the show last Friday, since you guys didn't go outside that night.

n/a (n/a), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:14 (seventeen years ago) link

that's terrible.

i have a lot of angst, but not so much in the pants area. my pants are comfortable.

PORNTIPSGUZZARDO (kenan), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Nope, the date is wrong, and we played the tunes he's talking about on Saturday.

JordanC (JordanC), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Actually I think that review is pretty OTM.

Close listening reveals how repetitive their tunes are.

Although I hope you don't have to listen closely to figure this one out!

JordanC (JordanC), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:17 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, i don't even know why it's worth mentioning.

PORNTIPSGUZZARDO (kenan), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Guys, I am bored. Today is even lighter than yesterday.

Today after work I need to get the oil changed in our car. I also need a haircut but I'm not sure it's a good idea to get a haircut the same day we have a show. I'll look all clean-cut, which isn't very. Though have I shared my idea for a super heavy stoner rock band where everyone wears suits and is very clean-cut? I want to steal psychedelic music from the hippies. I think that is the band that should be called Vice President.

n/a (n/a), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Quick, name a band whose set wouldn't start to sound repetitive after they've been playing for THREE HOURS.

n/a (n/a), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Not even God's band, Nick. But that's okay, because I would have passed out/fallen asleep/left after about 50 minutes anyway.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:33 (seventeen years ago) link

annoyance of the morning: people who "sneak a cup." The first of the drips of coffee are much darker and stronger than the last drips, and together they achieve a middle ground. Balance. I don't know how people can drink a cup out of the first half of the pot, actually -- it's black and bitter as hell. Maybe their taste buds are so burnt out from Folgers that they don't notice. But not my coffee! I grind it fresh every morning! Starbucks whole bean French Roast! It's good stuff. BUT NOT IF YOU SNEAK A CUP, YOU CRETINS.

PORNTIPSGUZZARDO (kenan), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Had a good time last night. I cannot recommend that restaurant enough!!

Good wine.

App: [shit ton of] fire-roasted prince edward island mussels
warm harissa butter 9.0
These were spicy and just plain amazing.

for entree I had pan-roasted skate wing with some kind of polenta and chick pea cake with yellow tomato chutney.

The atmosphere is perfect. We talked to the owner (Just yesterday I met the guy who married him and his wife--he was just hired at my work) who said he cleans the cleans the place himself. It is 8 years old and looks very fresh and up-to-date.

On Sundays they have belly dancers, all you can drink wine, and all you can eat appetizers for $25.

After the restaurant we went to Bin 36 (where the bartenders apparently remember me since we drank a lot of different wines and sherry and were charged for 1 glass!)

Finally a good date. Oh, and he invited me to Mexico on his free flight thing with United!

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Speaking of which, the evening took a turn for the sad when I brought up 9/11 and he said that he used to work with the United 93 flight attendants and he did their training. Yarps!

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Friday, 23 February 2007 15:40 (seventeen years ago) link

You're not supposed to bring up 9/11 until the second date.
