one year passes...

find an abandoned cabin in the woods
fix it up and provision it, but invisibly, subtly, so no one can tell
go there when the time comes to disappear
or when everything falls apart

is wanting to open a bookshop really that common of a thing? doesn't seem like it.

not for illiterates, no

jergins, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 19:59 (fifteen years ago) link

what about literates?

Lingbert, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 21:57 (fifteen years ago) link

i have a pact with my girlfriend where if were both unhappy with our career/life situation in 5 years were going to move somewhere sort of rural, maybe upstate new york or southern new jersey or somewhere in rhode island, and open a tiny little restaurant/bar with my dad as the chef with no more than 5-6 tables and just one menu every day based on what we can scrounge up and well just close the restaurant when we run out of ingredients

max max max max, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 22:31 (fifteen years ago) link

um thats a little more complicated than the actual pact which is just that well open a small business if we hate our lives in five years

max max max max, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 22:31 (fifteen years ago) link

opening a bar is probably a bigger fantasy for me than opening a bookstore, but bookstore rates pretty high

max max max max, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 22:32 (fifteen years ago) link

we are doing this. not off the grid by any means, just a different one. better, we hope. and no grand plans for opening any shops, etc., just making a new life in a new place. destination amsterdam, spring 2023. start making plans to see us there or meet up nearby!

lxy, Monday, 13 February 2023 03:52 (one year ago) link

are u 4 real

mookieproof, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 07:43 (one year ago) link

we just said goodbye to the jarbl, this is getting really real

lxy, Saturday, 25 February 2023 19:03 (one year ago) link

!

Hard to wrap my brain around you two not being in seattle.

toadstool might (tehresa), Sunday, 26 February 2023 01:32 (one year ago) link

this is so amazing and exciting! and weirdly sad too even though seattle is a million miles from here, but i know we will meet again which is joyful and i wish you both a wonderful new life <3

estela, Saturday, 4 March 2023 00:23 (one year ago) link

i still don't know what a jarbl is, except that i think i'm taller than it?

mookieproof, Saturday, 4 March 2023 00:45 (one year ago) link

i think it’s a harbl-designed or introduced jar for catching fruit flies so if that’s correct it’s probably quite short

estela, Saturday, 4 March 2023 02:40 (one year ago) link

tbf harbl is quite tall. but so am i

at the risk of needlessly referencing 'highlander' this seems like 'the quickening' in which we all converge on amsterdam, but to have beers instead of behead each other

mookieproof, Saturday, 4 March 2023 03:06 (one year ago) link

our house is for sale now, it’s a very strange feeling. maybe someone will buy it? i don’t know.

lxy, Monday, 13 March 2023 23:02 (one year ago) link

oh wowow
and our heights are marked in the basement in perpetuity

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 24 March 2023 01:22 (one year ago) link

they made it through our cleaning (of course), agent’s cleaning, staging, viewing, offer, second offer, counteroffer, mutual acceptance, and pending. next up, inspection, appraisal, and sale (knock on wood fingers crossed). so far so good!

sandboxlers forever!

lxy, Friday, 24 March 2023 16:02 (one year ago) link

i just regret mookieproof and deems didn’t come to have their heights recorded. there’s
still a little time?

lxy, Friday, 24 March 2023 17:12 (one year ago) link

lxy, Sunday, 26 March 2023 15:40 (one year ago) link

I checked and no, which I'm actually glad about because otherwise it would mean I am having major memory failures.

lxy, Sunday, 26 March 2023 22:46 (one year ago) link

i had beers in seattle but no measurements

perhaps we might do both in amsterdam?

mookieproof, Monday, 27 March 2023 04:07 (one year ago) link

lxy, Monday, 27 March 2023 19:22 (one year ago) link

yeah but not about something you experienced + something you walk past multiple times a day!

lxy, Wednesday, 29 March 2023 03:12 (one year ago) link

true i guess it would be only a very minor memory failure
