What a dead work day. I am basically just sitting around waiting on other people.

n/a (n/a), Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:30 (seventeen years ago) link

same, i'm covering for someone else today and with the exception of two phone calls and one issue brief i had to send to washington i haven't done shit. one task every half hour is a pace i can enjoy. and get used to for that matter.

I think so, especially since the last 2 times I've tried to visit the other place it's been unavailable.

What a dead work day. I am basically just sitting around waiting on other people.

Hey, that sounds like my day at work.

Usually I'm pretty consistently busy from 6:30 to 11, but man. It's slow.

I want to go home and watch movies all day long. We watched "For Your Consideration" on Tuesday, it was lukewarm.

n/a (n/a), Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:39 (seventeen years ago) link

ARRRGH.

I opened a can of Diet Coke and set it on my dresser, opened the top drawer and picked out socks, put them on and left the room. 30 seconds later I come back and Kenny is standing above the can which is now sitting inside the drawer upside-down. Fucking bird!

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Should have closed the drawer?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

that's a pretty awesome bird.

chicago kevin says it was nice knowing you all (chicago kevin), Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Should have gotten less malicious bird?

JordanC (JordanC), Thursday, 22 February 2007 16:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd like to go home and watch movies too, I've got True Romance at home.

I'm in a weird netflix phase, I've seen most of the movies I've been looking forward to and now I have huge groups of music dvds and old Britishes spy stuff. Or I could watch the Wire for a couple months.

JordanC (JordanC), Thursday, 22 February 2007 16:04 (seventeen years ago) link

i've been walking around with two movies in their envelopes ready to go back for a while now. and i forget about them everyday until i get ready to leave work.

Ooh, I want to see that, didn't realize it was on DVD yet. I know it won't be that good, but after Guffman, I feel an obligation to see everything Guest & Co. does.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 February 2007 16:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Don't you have an outgoing mailbox somewhere at work?

JordanC (JordanC), Thursday, 22 February 2007 16:08 (seventeen years ago) link

There were a few laughs in it but the whole thing just seemed off. The humor was forced and the pacing/structure was really bad. And it's really short, like right at 80 minutes.

we have an entire fucking post office here. i just keep forgetting about them until i'm packing up my shit and running to catch the bus.

chicago kevin says it was nice knowing you all (chicago kevin), Thursday, 22 February 2007 16:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Consider yourself reminded. Now will you put the envelopes in the mailbox? :)

from the "I always get those two confused" file: Stephen Tobolowsky and Bob Babalan.

lavender mofo (kenan), Thursday, 22 February 2007 16:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Both rule immensely.

Sarah and I learned on PBS that bonobos are continually doing it. A quickie (like 10 seconds) is a form of greeting. Even the lady bonobos say hey to each other with a little lovin'.

Hey EZ -- Lavender Diamond is coming to the EB. Wanna go? I do. 5/27

YES YES YES. I doubt it would sell out, but maybe we should get tix in case there's a tsunami of hype when Matador finally puts out their record.

Don't know, Kevin, but we probably won't start until at least then. We are third out of four bands.

Calico (calico), Thursday, 22 February 2007 17:23 (seventeen years ago) link

cool, hopefully i'll see you then.

chicago kevin says it was nice knowing you all (chicago kevin), Thursday, 22 February 2007 17:24 (seventeen years ago) link

EZ -- did you see this item on Carl W's blog?

Pitchfork reports that Joanna Newsom is going to put out an EP featuring her live band with one new song (probably the song fans have been calling Shreddy or Colleen, of which you can hear about 30 badly recorded seconds here) and one track each from Ys and Milk-Eyed Mender. I've never seen the band, which features tambura, accordion, drums, percussion and back-up vocals, but by the accounts and samples I've heard, I'm inclined to prefer the Balkan-influenced arrangements over the album's orchestral versions. It's a shame that the EP's only three songs. However, you can't beat the title: Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band - just another sign of the current Second Coming of Springsteenism on the indie side of the street.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 22 February 2007 17:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd like to hear that, for sure.

I just realized that Windish is Lavender D.'s booking agent, so between them and Matador they've probably got a band of their own to give a break to.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 22 February 2007 17:51 (seventeen years ago) link

For all the jaymc.xls fans out there, I just remembered that in fourth grade, I kept a steno pad with profiles of all of my classmates: where they lived, their parents and siblings names, birthdays, etc. Sort of a proto-MySpace back in 1988.
