weekend with my mother

it's not funny if no one ever tells me the real name

it's kinda fucked up to be able to hear my mom talking to people (neighbor, sister) about me

we watched the mariners game --they lost-- then i fell asleep during a live performance of romeo and juliet by the nyc ballet at lincoln center. leslie stahl interviewed the correographer, petet martins, during the intermission; she was really stupid, her questions were terrible. the guy was impatient with her but she was too dumb to notice.

she kicked my ass at some facebook word game. we set it up on two computers and hollered GO and off she went

(we should probably be glad we don't have a 'weekend with my step-mother thread. there'd be too much vitriol)

she's eaten half my easter chocolate, which is fair enough

also we dyed eggs and commiserated about how we suck at dying eggs

funny memory: at the gathering before my grandmother's funeral, in the midst of the somber murmers and quiet conversations, my mother burst out happily and loudly, "IT'S DOODLE!"

"doodle" was the nickname of one of my mom's girlhood friends, who had shown up unannounced because she had seen my grandmother's obituary. she and my mom hadn't seen one another for maybe 40 years.

it makes me laugh every time i think of it. IT'S DOODLE!
