StanM (StanM), Sunday, 20 August 2006 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I never shut down last night, so it's not me, whew.

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 20 August 2006 17:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Oy.

stet (stet), Sunday, 20 August 2006 19:44 (seventeen years ago) link

grimly fiendish (simon), Sunday, 20 August 2006 19:47 (seventeen years ago) link

grimly fiendish (simon), Sunday, 20 August 2006 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Markleby's been on vano.thehold.net grousing too.

Have you got other other places? Blimey.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Sunday, 20 August 2006 19:55 (seventeen years ago) link

vano was a very short-lived refugee camp, set up during last november's outage, which has five registered posters, none of whom ever visit. it also has some pictures of stet's hair.

Take it over to the nu-Glasgow thread!

noname#1, Monday, 21 August 2006 00:45 (seventeen years ago) link

The real ILX is gone off the internet because of you.

Ruud Haarvest (KenL), Monday, 21 August 2006 00:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Wow. I actually get to USE this thing. Usually when I find that ILX has poxy fuled, I'll arrive here, read up this thread, go back to regular ILX, and find that that's back up again. This is the first time I'm actually reloading without having anything come up since this board became available for regular ILX folks. So hi there.

*burrrrp*

This place needs some class mongrels.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 August 2006 02:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Yo. What's happening?

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Monday, 21 August 2006 02:34 (seventeen years ago) link

i like the pink box

kephm, Monday, 21 August 2006 02:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I bought a new laptop. And it was broken! &%%#$# ASUS.

So aulde-ILX is recalcitrant again? Im just getting timeouts. No errors.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 August 2006 02:36 (seventeen years ago) link

This place needs some class mongrels
It's like the all-powerful aliens have resurrected one from each nation-state over here on the toy version so that they can study how everybody interacts and determine whether the real ILX is worth saving. In a few minutes a hogbutcher, let's say Nick A, will come creeping out of the bushes.

Ruud Haarvest (KenL), Monday, 21 August 2006 02:39 (seventeen years ago) link

So this is the part where we split up and get picked off by the killer? Because I hate it when that happens.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 21 August 2006 02:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh damn. Bad laptop. Shame on it for being broken. And you bet your sweet bippy "aulde-ILX is recalcitrant again". I too am getting timeouts vs. anything particularly productive. *pokeprod*

The pink box is super-sweet. It adds a nice touch. Maybe the pink box keeper uppers can throw us out a few quotes or somesuch. Fun stuff.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Monday, 21 August 2006 02:56 (seventeen years ago) link

EEK. Me no likey that thought at all.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Monday, 21 August 2006 02:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Mmmm, nothing like a little hot pink box action while waiting for ILX.

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 21 August 2006 02:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Someone had to say it eventually ;)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 21 August 2006 04:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I'm surprised it took that long for that joke to be cracked.

Um, ok, I just saw a TV commercial advertising a scrap metal recycling site in Houston and one of the people in the ad looked like the spitting image of... Nick A. Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Monday, 21 August 2006 05:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Rock Hardy at your cervix, ladies and gents.

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Cool yourself down, Poppa.

Actually, while Nick would bring the surefire roffles, perhaps it would be better to select jaymc from that particular cohort, as he would be more helpful in reconstructing the missing pieces of the fullblown ILX.

Ruud Haarvest (KenL), Monday, 21 August 2006 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

AND AGAIN!

Are these code issues, traffic issues or a combination?

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 21 August 2006 20:49 (seventeen years ago) link

YOU'RE ALL DEAD

jaymc, Monday, 21 August 2006 20:51 (seventeen years ago) link

I feel like I'm in that same pub that Simon and Ailsa are in on the aulde-ILX WDYLL thread, but I can't quite seem to find them.

Simon's under the table, cursing super-strong cider which he claims he hates but curiously can't seem to stop drinking.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 14:33 (seventeen years ago) link

hic. DAMN YOU ... hic ... SUPER-STRONG ... hic ... bleeugh. you're all my besht mates.

the cider is all stet's fault. still, it makes a change from the time he forced me to drink double vodka and blue aftershock. or was it double blue aftershock and vodka? either way, i don't remember much about the next day. or the one after that.

grimly fiendish (simon), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 15:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Or black Sambuca. I blame your missus for that (even though I went back and bought more afterwards)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 15:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Drunks, all of you. (I love you.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 15:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I like how Ned always softens his comments with declarations of love. (Actually, I'm starting to adopt this technique myself; the other day I told my friend Troy, who has lost a lot of weight, that I loved him, but he really should buy some pants that fit him...).

This is what I have learned from Ned. And ILX.

how is the imperative recoding going, anyone?

stevem, Wednesday, 23 August 2006 13:49 (seventeen years ago) link

For those interested (though maybe they won't thank me for calling this to general attention):

http://groups.google.com/group/ilxor

While subscription is closed at present, understandably so -- I'm not a member myself -- you can still read all the posts if you want to keep track. *VERY* technical, though, so unless you can stand that your eyes will glaze over. But suffice to say a number of good points have already been addressed which will help speed up the database/reduce bottlenecks/etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 14:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd still like it if one of teh illuminati would take a shot at my question. (Are these code issues, traffic issues or a combination?)

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 14:49 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not illuminati but I think the issue is a combniation of both. The code as it's written is not as efficient as the amount of traffic ilx generates needs it to be.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:15 (seventeen years ago) link

OTM. The code as it stands uses the database for just about every page you see. That's ok when it's small, but i understand it's past 4gb, and the strain's showin.

stet (stet), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Gotcha. So the code rewrite is to change our DB-access vehicle from a 4-cyl. Chevy ImpLOLa to a 12-cyl LMAOborghini. I guess one obvious question is, what if the best model available is a 6-cyl. vehicle? (I'm not doubting y'all's ability, just asking.)

I would just about get behind dumping the DB and starting fresh, and everybody could have 30 days or whatever to save their favorite threads. It would be interesting to start from scratch with basic topics like "Sex: C/D" with a mix of old-time ILXors (whose outlooks might have changed) and newcomers. But I know that's been brought up and pretty much discarded as a plan.
