t. silaviver, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:19 (fourteen years ago) link

also it's hard to find a job when you're not there. experience teaches me that hiring parties generally think out of towners are too much work. i might line up temp legal stuff just as security, though.

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:24 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't have a job either because the job i had last summer doesn't hire w/o bar results but i am exploring other options

trouble child (harbl), Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:25 (fourteen years ago) link

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:25 (fourteen years ago) link

yes out of town job searching seems impossible unless you are looking at mega firms who recruit. but i am not.

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:36 (fourteen years ago) link

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:36 (fourteen years ago) link

i get laid off for a month starting june 15th and i am trying not to count down the days

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:42 (fourteen years ago) link

jergins, maybe we can hang out in our jobless time!

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:45 (fourteen years ago) link

i am moving in 20 days

kind of scared though like what if it sucks

trouble child (harbl), Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:46 (fourteen years ago) link

that would be a concern when you move to a sucky place

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:46 (fourteen years ago) link

About 344,069 people are unemployed and looking for work in Washington, the third record month in a row and topping last month's record 330,572.

Seattle's unemployment rate jumped an entire point to 8.8 percent -- topping the rate during the dot-com bust. The Seattle rate is the highest of all the months on record going back to January 2000.

t. silaviver, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:46 (fourteen years ago) link

cut it out

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:48 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah.
it's still cheaper there!

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:49 (fourteen years ago) link

While Maryland's unemployment rate remained well below the national rate of 8.5 percent in March, the 6.9 percent state rate was the highest since 1992, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

tehresa, Sunday, 26 April 2009 00:30 (fourteen years ago) link

hey harbs i was jk about baltimore sucking. i have no idea. i've spent all of three days there, as a tourist. i think it might be kind of an interesting place. i have no idea. urban exploration? lots of brick? heart of the east coast? hey a city's got john waters and matmos and amon repping for it, it can't be bad, right? great ballpark there. massive abandoned factories. birthplace of babe ruth. i'm into it.

jergins, Sunday, 26 April 2009 05:48 (fourteen years ago) link

lol @ face saving attempt

tehresa, Sunday, 26 April 2009 05:49 (fourteen years ago) link

it's ok jergins.

i was there for like 12 weeks last summer and i found it didn't suck or not suck, it's just a place to live. i liked my job ok and people in the office didn't seem miserable or overworked. i don't wanna live somewhere really cold anymore (e.g. where i grew up) or in the south (too hot and southern). also relatively cheap. and i think i am just a permanent east coaster. the midwest bothers me. it is really windy and people are weird and kind of annoying. anyway i'm not looking for some place people idealize like portland or something. i just wanna live somewhere average. like sort of good but sort of bad!

trouble child (harbl), Sunday, 26 April 2009 13:39 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't care if you say it sucks anyway. i was just wondering because it seems like a place you would like.

trouble child (harbl), Sunday, 26 April 2009 13:42 (fourteen years ago) link

i also considered milwaukee and philadelphia but eh. milwaukee is like a much colder version of cbus, which i am not that excited about to begin with. philadelphia the office i was looking at is not hiring any recent grads this year because of $$$. oh well! also i had an interview for prestigious nyc job and was sort of relieved when they didn't like me :)
