i wonder if a box will fall on your head

jergins, Wednesday, 22 April 2009 00:32 (fourteen years ago) link

i've wondered that too. i was hoping something good would happen while/after i moved but maybe something bad like that will happen. who knows anymore.

trouble child (harbl), Wednesday, 22 April 2009 00:51 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe it will be a blessing in disguise.

estela, Wednesday, 22 April 2009 04:53 (fourteen years ago) link

a cunt of a blessing.

estela, Wednesday, 22 April 2009 04:53 (fourteen years ago) link

oh dear

max max max max, Wednesday, 22 April 2009 11:41 (fourteen years ago) link

max max max max, Wednesday, 22 April 2009 11:42 (fourteen years ago) link

that was a quote, my friend told me she borrowed an evening bag for a formal thing she was going to from a very ladylike friend of hers who then said in a posh voice, you should keep it if you want to, it's a cunt of a bag.

i just responded to a sublet ad!
maybe this is really happening!

tehresa, Friday, 24 April 2009 15:09 (fourteen years ago) link

what neighborhood? what month?

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 21:27 (fourteen years ago) link

july 1, it was a few blocks from volunteer park, but they haven't replied to me :(
maybe sublet r3my's place, though...

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 22:02 (fourteen years ago) link

finding apt was so annoying. you have to reload craigslist all day basically and jump on things in the first 10 min. in my experience. i am subletting until aug 15 bc i didn't wanna do a year without seeing it, also don't know how much money i'll have in 3 months. could be a lot, could be none!

trouble child (harbl), Saturday, 25 April 2009 22:08 (fourteen years ago) link

what city?

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 22:09 (fourteen years ago) link

the greatest city in america

trouble child (harbl), Saturday, 25 April 2009 22:10 (fourteen years ago) link

the greatest city in america needs lawyers? not so great then huh

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 22:12 (fourteen years ago) link

i have been eying listings for the past month or so and i keep seeing tons of repeats, but yeah, don't really wanna rent a place til i'm there and have an idea where i will be working/spending most of my time, so i think sublet is the way to go! those probably go faster, though.

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:05 (fourteen years ago) link

are you really gonna move w/o a job lined up, tza??

t. silaviver, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:19 (fourteen years ago) link

t. silaviver, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:23 (fourteen years ago) link

also it's hard to find a job when you're not there. experience teaches me that hiring parties generally think out of towners are too much work. i might line up temp legal stuff just as security, though.

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:24 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't have a job either because the job i had last summer doesn't hire w/o bar results but i am exploring other options

trouble child (harbl), Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:25 (fourteen years ago) link

shit t siv i've moved a half-dozen times w/o a job (though not w/ the type of shit that's going on right now)

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:25 (fourteen years ago) link

harbs did u pass the bar??

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:25 (fourteen years ago) link

yes out of town job searching seems impossible unless you are looking at mega firms who recruit. but i am not.

trouble child (harbl), Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:25 (fourteen years ago) link

i am taking it in july jergs

trouble child (harbl), Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:26 (fourteen years ago) link

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:34 (fourteen years ago) link

monday is my last day of work and i am pumped

trouble child (harbl), Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:36 (fourteen years ago) link

my position was always set to end with the end of the season.

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:36 (fourteen years ago) link

originally i thought i might get laid off in like january. this was always when it was supposed to be over, though.

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:36 (fourteen years ago) link

i get laid off for a month starting june 15th and i am trying not to count down the days

jergins, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:42 (fourteen years ago) link

i am counting down the days because i am bored a lot at work.

jergins, maybe we can hang out in our jobless time!

tehresa, Saturday, 25 April 2009 23:45 (fourteen years ago) link

hey and wow and congratulations

jergins, Saturday, 13 March 2010 23:46 (fourteen years ago) link

tehresa, Sunday, 14 March 2010 18:52 (fourteen years ago) link

lots of tax deductions available if you move more than 200 miles for a job! Boxes, temporary storage, hotels, moving van rental, etc. Have done this twice - it was worth researching and keeping receipts. Deductible even if you don't itemize iirc.

Everyone is moving but us :( I think we're all moved out maybe.

jaq, Sunday, 14 March 2010 19:01 (fourteen years ago) link

yes! i was looking into that the other day. so many deductions :D :D :D

but damn, cross-country twice in 10 months is a bit extreme :(

tehresa, Sunday, 14 March 2010 19:15 (fourteen years ago) link

this is all happening so fast i am freaking out

tehresa, Friday, 19 March 2010 21:54 (fourteen years ago) link

ps anyone want some stuff? lol

tehresa, Friday, 19 March 2010 21:56 (fourteen years ago) link

Mr. Jaq is gonna want those books back b4 you go b/c he is just that way about books. If you haven't read yet I'll send you new ones for dc placewarming. Also, if you need help packing maybe I could help? Wld have to be next week though.

jaq, Friday, 19 March 2010 22:07 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah definitely! also those manuals! i did not finish books yet but i doubt i will have time before i leave but i can always go to library, etc :)

i am going to see what i can accomplish this weekend but maybe packing party next week or weekend?

tehresa, Friday, 19 March 2010 22:18 (fourteen years ago) link

btw, you know our Mad Men watching friend MM has done this back-n-forth bicoastal move stuff a lot! (SEA-NYC-SEA-NYC in 4 yrs! and moving back to SEA in another year probably!) He shipped/mailed most of his stuff last time.

jaq, Friday, 19 March 2010 22:32 (fourteen years ago) link

i did that when i came out but i am really attached to my bed and figured that trying to sell it and the couch and then re-buy back east would not be v lucrative as opposed to just shipping everything in relocube, which is only a few hundred more than it cost me to ship everything in june!

tehresa, Friday, 19 March 2010 23:05 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, when my son moved to FL, he compared renting truck/driving vs. moving company vs. door-to-door moving (pod things) - he squeezed all his stuff into one pod and didn't cost much at all.

jaq, Friday, 19 March 2010 23:12 (fourteen years ago) link

reading moving company reviews had me so terrified that even though some quoted lower prices than the pod i just feel a little more at ease with the pod situation.

tehresa, Friday, 19 March 2010 23:16 (fourteen years ago) link

uhaul is not expensive but by the time you add gas + hotels it would be a lot... but man, a cross-country trip would be so awesome! i am considering taking the train for 42 hours instead. montana! and you can check 3 bags free (as opposed to planes, where you have to pay).

tehresa, Friday, 19 March 2010 23:17 (fourteen years ago) link

lol pushed a week so i don't go crazy

tehresa, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 02:01 (fourteen years ago) link

good luck with everything, tehresa, and congratulations! i hope you like your new job and town.

estela, Tuesday, 23 March 2010 11:28 (fourteen years ago) link
