Jordan, if you haven't seen, the bit that CPR did on your gig from last weekend is available to listen to/download at

Just look for "Mardi Gras in Chicago".

Last night a union guy was sat in my section and we talked unions and I told him about going to New Orleans, etc. I told him that in the wake of Katrina Bush repealed the Davis-Bacon act which says that workers who work on government-contracted jobs must be paid the prevailing wage for their area (NO=around $15/hour, I think). Do you know that he said that that was probably not a bad idea?!

This post would probably have been a better IM to Jenny.

Oh, thanks Dan!!

traipsing out into the sunshiny world with a hangover is hard enough anywhere, but it's especially unpleasant when you have to deal with the Loop first thing in the morning. Loud and people-y.

my worst hangover involved puking into the mississippi river at 11:45 a.m. in new orleans along the river walk amongst a throng of tourists. some southern belle/sorority type actually gasped and pointed at me while i was hurling. i put both hands on the railing, steadied myself, turned towards her and her friends and just said "YEAH!" then tried again to get back to my hotel.

HA!!! Awesome.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:21 (seventeen years ago) link

it kinda was, kinda wasn't. at the time it was only like the second time i'd ever puked from drinking. we'd started in massachusetts about 31 hours before and went straight through, it was when my body was no longer able to tolerate the abuse i put it through when i was in my early 20s.

Why does my weather toolbar say SEVERE WEATHER ALERT?

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:26 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost- the awesome part is the southern belle. But what do I know about awesome.

Have any of you gone up to a Catholic today and gone, "Oh, you've got something on your forehead--"? I do or almost do that every Ash Wednesday. Except today since I'm at home.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

i just walked past a striking vision of a med student and she had ashes on her head but it wasn't her forehead i was thinking about.

In case you were unaware:

The new I LOVE X is ready.

I'll be over there if you need me.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll be here until nu-lx looks/works decent.

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:40 (seventeen years ago) link

How long did it take you to get your password email?

n/a (n/a), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:43 (seventeen years ago) link

won't let me log in, won't send me a password. it's not done baking.

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Waht the fuck. We can't leave kevin behind!

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:44 (seventeen years ago) link

My password took a while, guys. Like mabye 15 minutes, and that was before the rush. Give it a bit?

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:44 (seventeen years ago) link

It took me 0 seconds to get a password.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:45 (seventeen years ago) link

OK. It looks ugly over there though.

n/a (n/a), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:45 (seventeen years ago) link

so we all have new passwords?

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:45 (seventeen years ago) link

i disabled css (which totally fucked with the article on the red sox spring training i was reading) and still couldn't make it go. c'est la vie.

chicago kevin says fuck this, it's noodle time. (chicago kevin), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I got mine in a couple minutes.

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm staying where you guys are for now.

It's ugly, but I always love the cries of "OMG I CAN'T READ FONT!!!!!" Yes you can, don't be a jerk. It may not look like what you're used to or what you want it to but you can still read it.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

I vote we just camp out over here for the time being.

n/a (n/a), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, you have to re-register and use a real email address for it, because it will email you the password. And then you can change it in preferences later.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

never mind. i r dum.

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

2x

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

I think those people were complaining about the security thing where you have to copy what's in the box to get your password. Which was kind of hard to read.

n/a (n/a), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Uh, that was to Nick's post, not to Kenan being dum.

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:49 (seventeen years ago) link

I registered with a real email because I am SMRT. No password yet though.

n/a (n/a), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:49 (seventeen years ago) link

it look fine. better, actually. the line spacing is better. much easier to read; I don't have to reset my default font to get away from tiny times new roman.

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Dude. Fuck me in the goat ass. I have to work tonight. Dung.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:50 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't know, it looks very early '90s to me. And I can't change the font size with ctrl + scroll.

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Whoah, I think they already changed the font since the first time I looked at it.

n/a (n/a), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:54 (seventeen years ago) link

they did. it's better but still odd.

JuliaA (JuliaA), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 19:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Try Ctrl and "-" or "+" to change the font size. Worked for me.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Hmmm, not working for me.

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:05 (seventeen years ago) link

That's a browser command, it will change the text size on every web page you visit.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Dude, stop fucking my goat ass, I got my shift covered and am going to an informational session at DePaul University CHICAGO'gewjkwaeg;lljkasfd;lkj.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:08 (seventeen years ago) link

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:14 (seventeen years ago) link

How are we sposed to intuit what to type here?

User Name (email address):

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not ready for that jelly.

Username=email address is what I'm getting out of that.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I like this Sandbox ILX better. It looks exactly like Ye Olde ILX, so the only advantage to the new one, as I can see it, is the archives. Which really aren't all that important on a day-to-day basis.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:20 (seventeen years ago) link

archives and "improved security" (and eventual bandwidth)

But I agree, I like the sandbox better.

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:22 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't care about security. The new ILX hurts my eyes.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:24 (seventeen years ago) link

As I said on the I Love X thread: New board has un-American style of showing dates!

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:25 (seventeen years ago) link

That was a dumb way of saying that.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:26 (seventeen years ago) link

In ILX2, dates show you!

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:27 (seventeen years ago) link

That's probably just because the Preferences haven't been tricked out yet.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Why the hate for BBCODE?

Jeff... (Jeff...), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 20:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't understand what is un-American about it.
