i liked this, from a last.fm artist profile

It’s 3 AM and you’re giggling with inebriation. You’re wearing painfully tight jeans. You just made out with a complete stranger on the dancefloor, and you haven’t sat down in over eight hours. Where are you?

i thought this was kind of funny. from the strangers' last days:

This happened last Wednesday night on the Metro 28 headed northbound. A woman who was obviously clueless or couldn't care less was talking on her phone at the rear of the bus, loud enough for everyone in the back half to hear her. She was talking about the most pathetic drivel, in a sing-song whine: "Oh, you know, I just don't know what I want in life, but that's always been the case with me, hasn't it? i just don't know, and I may never know," and on and on, and you get the point.

She did this from downtown to Fremont. In Fremont, she started lamenting about how bad the public radio is in Seattle. "Oh, they have this little radio staion, and it's so, you know, 'cute', like this is your NPR station, and you're so proud of it, and it's so little it's, you know, cute, and it's just so sad. I mean, Minneapolis has like, the largest public radio in the country, or in the world, and it's like, a 5-story building, and I just miss NPR..."

Everyone on the bus endured this until the guy next to her did the classic move: He took out his cell phone and pretended to talk to someone in a much louder voice: "Oh, I'm on the bus and this woman is so clueless, she's just talking so loud, and complaining about public radio..." He has to almost shout for her to get the clue, at which point this flannel/trucker-hat/work-boot guy directly across from her joins in, and starts schooling her about public radio, on and on about how the size of the Seattle market warrants these stations, and Minneapolis/St. Paul is much bigger, and what about Los Angeles, where KCRW is the flagship station for NPR, and they have KPCC and KPFA and then he started mocking her and whining and crying, "I miss Minnesota radio, waaaah," and she stayed on her cell the whole time, but told the trucker guy, "You're being passive-aggressive" which made a few few people actually laugh out loud.

it was all pretty entertaining, Seattleites (who are notoriously passive-aggressive, i agree) sticking up for our public radio....

about it^:

Elijah Porter, a student at the Yale School of Architecture, has a great Flickr set up called Material Formation in Design. It features several awesome examples of how strategic cutting can transform a solid surface into a porous structure.

...you're looking at what might be called subtractive origami, wherein diamond-shaped cuts have introduced foldability and mesh into a solid sheet of steel.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/O/ODD_MYSTERY_SAFE?SITE=PAREA&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Two men said they've found an abandoned safe by the side of some railroad tracks and that it could be more than a century old. Bill Dodd, one of the men who found the safe about a month and a half ago, says it weighs about 4,000 pounds. It's now on display at an east Tulsa sign company while the men decide what to do with it.

The patent dates on the safe range from 1856 to 1907. Dodd says that the safe is rusted shut and its locks have been broken off. He says he thinks there's something inside and that it hasn't been opened as far as he knows.

Dodd said the safe could be auctioned off for charity or the men who found it could open it themselves. He says the latter option probably would require cutting into the safe.

Preserve is on going project to produce a permanent visual record of hand painted building signage. Many of these are being erased from our cityscapes either being worn away by weather over time, covered as buildings have been repainted, disappearing as buildings are demolished or replaced with modern signage equivalents. This site will be updated regularly with my latest images and you are invited to contribute to this work.

I hate myself for no longer listening to tech house and minimal. Headphones on. London street walking. Self appraisal. Consideration of others. Reduction of hatred. Increase the lust / non-lust ratio. There is nothing better in the entire world.

1995
Berlin, Germany
She was the first woman that I let move in with me. All my friends thought I needed to learn to let people in more. A few months after she moved in, I was offered to travel to the US. She could not come along. At the airport we said goodbye in tears, and she was assuring me she could not survive three weeks without me.
I returned after three weeks, and she said: «I fell in love with someone else. I have known her for just 4 days, but I know that she can give me everything that you cannot.»
I was banal and asked about her plans regarding our life together. The next day she still had no answer, so I kicked her out. She immediately went on holiday with her new girlfriend while her furniture stayed with me. Not knowing what to do with my anger, I finally bought this axe at Karstadt to blow off steam and to give her at least a small feeling of loss – which she obviously did not have after our break-up.
In the 14 days of her holiday, every day I axed one piece of her furniture. I kept the remains there, as an expression of my inner condition. The more her room filled with chopped furniture acquiring the look of my soul, the better I felt.
Two weeks after she left, she came back for the furniture. It was neatly arranged into small heaps and fragments of wood. She took that trash and left my apartment for good. The axe was promoted to a therapy instrument.
