'Future So Bright'
(Art)

Best known for his experimental films, including The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal (a cheeky parody of Greenbergian art history), Portland's Matt McCormick is branching out into formal video art installations. This series is about ghost properties—bleached houses and gutted hotels sitting in gorgeous Western landscapes that seem to stretch on into infinity. Who knew it would take a filmmaker to bring aesthetic concerns back to video art? (Seattle University Lee Center for the Arts, 901 12th Ave, 296-2244. Opening 5–8 pm, free.)

sounds like a plan.

a good wednesday night out option:
http://bp1.blogger.com/_834L0hL0hPk/R6oEi7ee8PI/AAAAAAAAAbM/Em0Doho_tWc/s400/studio-web-350.jpg

I wanted to make the early announcement that starting Wednesday, March 5th, I along with many other local and national deejays/promoters will be hosting a new disco night weekly at Havana called 'Studio'. This night, which is a spin off of the party that we threw back in December at the Nectar. Now moved to Havana (1010 E Pike Street, Capitol Hill) as a weekly event happening every Wednesday, everyone in Seattle finally has an 'all disco night' where they can hear all the selections I post on this blog as well as many other classic and rare disco, italo, and cosmic funk tracks. There will be rotating cast of deejays that include myself (TJ Gorton), HMA, DJ Colin, J-Justice, and many many more. The first night will also include free LP giveaways courtesy from Seattle's Light in the Attic Records. Mark your calendars for March 5th and every Wednesday after that as the night that we celebrate, dance, and turn Havana into an underground 1970's discotheque, a la Paradise Garage, The Gallery, The Loft, Cosmic, Baia Degli Angeli, Studio 54, etc.

J O N A (Get Physical Music) is coming

jergins to division
show details 12:05 pm (1 minute ago)

Love this guy, especially 'Yellowstone' off of the gpm 4th anniversary label comp. Sunny day like today, that'd be a track to play.

Yeah, gpm website here http://www.physical-music.com/data.pl?artist=51 says:

April 19 - Seattle (US), See Sound Lounge

I'm glad I've never been to See Sound. This'll be a great first experience.

Now we just need the rest of the gpm roster to come here.

Genre: Ambient, Post Rock

Stars of the Lid is a duo specializing in drone-based ambient music. They list among their influences minimalist and electronic composers such as Arvo Pärt, Zbigniew Preisner, Gavin Bryars, and Henryk Górecki, as well as Talk Talk (both bands have tracks named "Taphead"), post-rock artists Labradford, and ambient innovator Brian Eno. Their songs are largely beatless soundscapes, composed of droning, effects-treated guitars along with piano, strings, and horns; volume swells and feedback fill the gap of rhythmic instruments, providing dynamic movement within the songs. Their sound has been described as "divine, classical drone without the tedious intrusion of drums or vocals."

Lingbert, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 02:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Genre: Mark, Stooge

Lingbert is an artist who specializes in stating the obvious, asking many questions, and taking things seriously when they are intended as jokes. For this reason, his friends, who are very fond of him, do their best to set him up. Outsiders may perceive this as being mean and malicious, however it is offered in a good-natured spirit, and Lingbert, whimsical and carefree person that he is, seems to take it as such.

lxy, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 03:25 (sixteen years ago) link

(but i do thank you for the link and the explanation)

lxy, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 03:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Genre: L, X, Y

lxy is a person who specializes in assuming that Lingbert takes intended jokes seriously, when in fact, he does not. lxy frequently surprises Lingbert when she doesn't catch on to his deadpan responses, even after knowing him for like 1.5 years now. An outsider might perceive this as lxy not actually knowing Lingbert all that well despite the extended period of interaction with him. When asked about this, Lingbert will just shake his head slowly and say "Oh, that lxy."

Lingbert, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 03:52 (sixteen years ago) link

is the show general admission or reserved?

jergins, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 05:25 (sixteen years ago) link

general admission, first come first serve, "Seating is *FESTIVAL* style, meaning you may be joined by other parties at your table"

i don't care if i have to share a table with other people because i'll be so fuckin' blissin' out on sotl and those other schmoes will be irrelevant to my plane of existence

i bet this show will sound like a righteous dream if you're STONED!!
