yeah, I forgot to tell you (Laurel) that it takes 14-21 days for the smells to arrive. when they do, though, you'll be happy!

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 23:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Thanks, I probably could have figured that out from the fine print somewhere, but I was waiting for two things to arrive today and feeling not in control of all the shipping confirms and bank charge dates and etc.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 23:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey, I said way upthread, when Jesse asked me why I was excited about the Oscars, that gaping at what people are wearing was one of my reasons.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 23:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Then you are one of the people with whom I stand in solidarity re: Oscars. Although, I don't usually watch that part on TV. I just wait excitedly for gofugyourself.com to update the next day.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 23:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I am bummed that no one has stepped up to join the trivia team. I guess I could ask the guy I know who was a three-day Jeopardy! champ, but I'd rather not.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 00:25 (seventeen years ago) link

WAIT. There is a good possibility that the thing I was supposed to do Thursday night is now canceled in which case I could probably do the trivia. I won't know until tomorrow, though.

Also, there was a blind guy on the bus and he got off and the bus driver said, "You can cross now!" and he crossed the street but ran into two stopped cars and then almost fell down a storm drain because he was kind of off kilter from the cross walk since the bus stopped in the middle of it so he was pretty unsure of where he was going. For some reason this made me think of Jesse. I'm sure that it was a little freaking to the people in the second car because he just barreled right into their driver's side door. He eventually got on the sidewalk and got oriented, though.

Informal poll time!

True or false: silverware drawer dividers are silly.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Note: This is probably one of those things that I have a strong opinion on for about as long as it takes for somebody that I like to say, "I have one of those and I think it's great!" at which point I will totally take back everything I just said.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm torn, because I wish I could use the one I bought, but it doesn't fit into the kitchen drawer. I should probably just line the drawer and dump everything in there.

Pros: lets you see how many forks you have left, good for the blind

Cons: don't fit into my kitchen drawer

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:25 (seventeen years ago) link

srsly, i have three kitchen drawers, and they're all six inches wide. Who designed these cabinets?

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:26 (seventeen years ago) link

I have the same problem as Kenan, and now it rests on the back porch windowsill of the kitchen.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:36 (seventeen years ago) link

it = silverware tray, not my problem

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Wow, I just looked in our kitchen and without the addition of our own auxiliary storage, we have one drawer that is about six inches wide.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:41 (seventeen years ago) link

mine's on the bottom shelf of the dishware cabinet. Which is wrong.

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I have the same problem as Kenan

I thought I was alone! We should form some sort of group.

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Sometimes it helps to talk about your kitchen drawers with others who have the same problem.

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I love silverware dividers! If you don't have one, do you store your utensils standing up in a glass or something? It helps you get a soup spoon vs teaspoon when you want one, and the leftover rectangular compartment is good for bottle openers, sugar spoons, cheese knives, etc. So when you need something there is no digging.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Also when it gets full of crud you can run it through the dishwasher, or float it in a sink of hot water and a cap-full of bleach, unlike the entire drawer.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:51 (seventeen years ago) link

laurel otm. but i am crippled. I HAVE NO DRAWERS. AND MY PARENTS DIDN'T LOVE ME ENOUGH.

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll do trivia if no one else wants to.

Jeff... (Jeff...), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Now I'm thinking of all the crap in the kitchen that won't fit anywhere easily. There's a lot. Stupid apartments with no countertop space...

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:59 (seventeen years ago) link

I have counter-top but roommate likes to keep it clear and we have precious little cupboard space (partly the fault of dishwasher but also bad design). So my pie pans and all my pot lids are stored in the dishwasher and it has to be emptied to wash anything. Garrr.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 03:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I thought trivia was tonight? If it is, I may now be free for it. We're not having practice tonight anymore but Sarah and I had talked about other plans. I will decide soon.

n/a (n/a), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 13:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Jenny, could you post the trivia details again? I think they were originally on Real ILX.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 14:19 (seventeen years ago) link

yesterday i got home to find not one, not two, not even three but all four records i ordered waiting for me. that was pretty awesome. then the ups guy came by and dropped off an unexpected package for me and that really blew wind up my proverbial skirt. books and music, music and books, it's all i really need to get by.

chicago kevin, it is said, never gives up his dead (chicago kevin), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 14:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I lurve drawer dividers. We have 2 at home PLUS a countertop silverware divider. We keep our regular spoons, forks, knives on the counter and everything else (multiple spatulas, sharp knives, measuring spoons, serving spoons, can openers, etc etc) in the two dividers in our large pull-out drawer.

I'm expecting one of those ebay dresses to come via usps today.

Calico (calico), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh man, am I tired. The show last night was pretty hot though.

I was hoping to meet girlz but all I got was annoying middle-aged woman showing her tits. :(

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:05 (seventeen years ago) link

From yesterday:

1) Art is a competition.

2) Jesse, D. Shavers was shot by a 17 yr old kid aiming for his 15 yr old stepson, over a beef about having moved into the wrong neighborhood or something.

3) Brick is awesome.

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Storing pie pans in the dishwasher sounds like a recipe for never, ever doing dishes. Gah.

I just throw all the silverware in the draw, willy nilly. None of our silverware matches (well, not much of it anyway) so it's easy to find what you want by looking for the correct handle. We have another drawer with various utensils in it. For some reason, I am unconcerned about the cleanliness of the silverware drawer, which is uncharacteristic.

Here are the pub quiz details. It turns out that I cannot go after all; I have to speak on a panel at Planned Parenthood tomorrow night and have to, you know, figure out WTF I'm supposed to say tonight. I thought that was going to get canceled but it's still on.

Place: Galway Arms, 2442 N. Clark (Clark and Arlington)
Date: Wednesday, February 21
Time: 8 pm
Cost: $5 minimum donation (please give more if you can!)

The Galway Arms pub quiz is a trivia game with teams of about 3 - 6 people. An MC asks 4 rounds of questions and the teams write down their answers on a given form, which is later scored. There is a prize for the winning team of each round as well as a grand prize for the team with the highest score after 4 rounds.

Six people? Goddamn.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, but our combined brainpower is equivalent to six people.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:38 (seventeen years ago) link

OK I am definitely down for trivia, if we can get a full team together. I will plan on being there a little before 8.

n/a (n/a), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Three counts as a full team. I'll be there, too.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:44 (seventeen years ago) link

This photo will be the highlight of my day.

http://static.flickr.com/57/189161124_d1f16dfaf6.jpg

It's all downhill from here. I should stop trying.

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I will be there to stand right in front of your team's table and tell WOO HOO!!!! YEEAAHHH!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!! and take lots of photos with flash.

Calico (calico), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm still down as well.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

i'll heckle the other teams if you think that will help.

chicago kevin, it is said, never gives up his dead (chicago kevin), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:49 (seventeen years ago) link

I wonder if there are going to be straight-up math questions. I kinda suck at math.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Math doesn't equal trivia. But I'm ok at math, as long as its not college-level math or higher.

Why was everyone so down on the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! album? It sounds pretty good to me. Though I never heard their first album.

n/a (n/a), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Is that a shrimp po'boy? I've never had one because I find the idea of putting breaded food on BREAD a little keerazy, but I'm actually...tempted...

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I had some shrimp po' boy yesterday. :>

xpost, crazy like a fox

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:54 (seventeen years ago) link

there is nothing bad about fried shrimp. at least that's the story i'm sticking to.

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:54 (seventeen years ago) link

jordan, is there anywhere in chicago to get one of those crazy koo-koo sandwiches?

lavender mofo (kenan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:55 (seventeen years ago) link

I meant trig math, square roots, and stuff like that. Things that people who are good at math can recall from memory of figure out quickly in their head. That was always what I was worst at, even more so than movies.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Not really. We were actually talking about this last night, since there are like four decent New Orleans places in Madison and not very many in Chicago in Minneapolis. There's Heaven on Seven, but I thought it was overpriced and not a very good po boy.

JordanC (JordanC), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I suppose though, with the format of the game, that wouldn't really make a big difference.

I don't mind the new CYHSY and I also thought their first record was overhyped. The dude still sounds like drunk Gordon Gano.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay Kenan, here is what you do. You go to Lawrence's seafood and you get a 1/2 pound of the best damn shrimp I've ever eaten. You take it home, where you have a soft french loaf, shredded lettuce, mayo, tomato slices, pickles, and hot sauce waiting. Then you have the best po boy ever eaten.
