^^^ Wow! ^^^

You can't really go wrong with a Buick LeSabre. Generally speaking they are owned by the little old lady crowd and haven't experienced much abuse. Chances are also good the car you're considering whiled away most of it's hours in a nice comfortable garage away from the elements. LeSabres come with a solid reputation for reliability, good performance, a comfortable ride and gas mileage in the high 20s. I've owned three and traded them when they got to about 170k miles. None of them ever left me stranded. Pretty solid rides they were. good luck!

that's funny, there's a Portland-area Chevy dealer named Wentworth.

Anyhoo, the car has 90K-odd miles, and actually was owned by an old couple, so says the auto guy. Hopefully, they can finance me with my damaged credit. Guy says he's going to run the numbers today and get back to me tonight.

what kind of down payment are you looking at?

grady (grady), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:48 (seventeen years ago) link

less than a grand.

aside rom making sure that the car's never been in a registered accident by looking up the vin (which you already did right?), paying a mechanic you trust fifty bucks to give the thing a serious going-over is the best thing to do.

both these things i have learned by NOT doing them, and getting stuck with such shitty cars and giving various mechanics a LOT of $$, so that eventually i just bought a new pick-up truck -- which is really dumb too just based on depreciation, but i don't plan on ever getting rid of it so maybe it's a'ight in the long run (besides it's paid off).

VIN check is done and clear. coughed up money to Carfax for that. I've only lived in this town for two years so there are no mechanics here i trust.

Kingfish, try Sho's on 52nd & Steele. I searched around for mechanics in Portland forever, but then was recommended to Sho's by a friend. They're the only mechanic I've used in the last five years.

ohh dude you're in portland?! ok, me too.

PIEREN'S on killingsworth, right next to beaterville -- awesome people (came with multiple solid friend-recommendations) super cheap.

not gonna be there forever due to the ongoing albina-ization of killingsworth, however.

Thanks for the recommendations. i'm probably going to stop by the dealership later tonight to have them run my numbers; dealer guy said they could probably get me at 24 months for under $200, which is all i was looking for.

All's i need is this thing to get me from NE to hillsboro & back everyday for the next two years. That's it.

Ok, so I bought the buick. My int. rate is hilariously high, but they got the payments low enough.
