So true. So, so true.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:39 (seventeen years ago) link

let's... uh... talk about something else.

I went into a cleaning frenzy yesterday. Aired out the apartment and went to town on it. There's not a lot of clutter, since I don't own anything, but cat hair. Oh, cat hair. How you torture me.

teasing your poultry (kenan), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Kenan, Do you want some clutter? I can give you some, real cheap.

Anyone want bigger/larger breasts? Read Here!

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess I meant to say bigger/smaller, but I was thinking bigger is better, so...

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Cat hair is ridiculous. There's a dude named Dizzy crashing on my couch right now, and if I had known that would happen I would have cleaned off the carpet of cat hair that covers it.

JordanC (JordanC), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost you scared me. apparently that only happens in prepubescents. because i love lavender, and do not want to give it up.

teasing your poultry (kenan), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:57 (seventeen years ago) link

You know, it's not too late. He'd probably still appreciate it. And maybe be less Dizzy.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Did you throw a blanket or something on top of it to create a protective shield between him and the hair?

Kenan, the study was on prepubescents, but you never know...

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I have nothing to say about any of today's conversation.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Tell us about your labia, John.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:04 (seventeen years ago) link

We really need to not have this be the last post on the page. :-D

I'm feeling a little better right now. I made the kickassomist potato veggie enchiladas last night (& rice & beans) and I get to have leftovers in t minus 45 mintues.

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh yeah, he had a blanket and stuff. I'm sure he's up by now, and poking around my messy apartment.

JordanC (JordanC), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Sucks for him that you aren't there to make him sour cream panwaffles.

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:27 (seventeen years ago) link

there's a yogurt spread we were eating on toast called labna. i always read it wrong.

http://parthenonfoods.com/product_thumb.php?img=images/DairyYogurtLabna.jpg&w=72&h=85

it was good though, like a cross between yogurt and cream cheese.

JuliaA (JuliaA), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Recipe: Bacon-Wrapped Dates

A sticky, salty, sweet, chewy delight. Couldn't be simpler, and they go like hotcakes. Just wrap half a strip of bacon around a seeded date, secure with a toothpick and bake at 350 degrees until the bacon is crisp. Make more than you think you'll need, people love them and the house smells great. They can be made well ahead of time and frozen in freezer bags. Bake frozen or not. Serve hot from the oven. Great to keep on hand, frozen, for unexpected company.

Metrosexual Healing (crunkleJ), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:28 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost that's what she said

teasing your poultry (kenan), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:29 (seventeen years ago) link

i tried wrapping a date in bacon once. i was thinking "two great things, even better together!" but it turns out the whole is less than the sum of the parts.

chicago kevin cleaned a lot of plates in memphis (chicago kevin), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:32 (seventeen years ago) link

lol

I'm out dudes, have a good afternoon and Mardi Gras evening.

JordanC (JordanC), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:33 (seventeen years ago) link

it seems like it might be good. but not if the date is all disgustingly sweetened.

JuliaA (JuliaA), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:36 (seventeen years ago) link

I tried wrapping a date in bacon once too, as I was out of condoms.

Another source of outrage: This article is bad enough, but the comments!!

"Vindication at last. Perhaps now society will look upon our women not as the fairer sex but with an equal eye and as much to blame as the men."

Metrosexual Healing (crunkleJ), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:44 (seventeen years ago) link

did anyone get a paczki today

I did! The head copy editor brought in a couple of boxes.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:45 (seventeen years ago) link

bacon wrapped dates benefit from a drizzling of cider vinegar.

All I have is a Lean Cuisine of questionable safety as it's been thawed and re-frozen at least once.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 17:52 (seventeen years ago) link

it was of questionable safety to begin with.

n/a (n/a), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 18:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Thank you.

I guess my point was, I've never heard of it, there was no Oscar buzz attached to it, and IMDB (which apparently has been redesigned?) says it came out in 2005.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 18:51 (seventeen years ago) link

and why would you know about a movie with no Oscar buzz attached to it, right?

robots in love (robots in love), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 18:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Really? No Oscar buzz? I saw some SERIOUS Oscar blog buzz about the movie, mainly in the aforementioned "Sauciest British Bitches" category. Of course, there's always Judi Dench to contend with in that segment, so it's going to be tough for them. So to the makers of "The Descent" I say good luck and cheerio!

n/a (n/a), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 18:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Why?

Because I love the whole horse-race aspect of it, seeing what the pundits are predicting and if momentum is shifting in one direction or another, and because, like baseball, I love all the lore and the trivia and the history attached to it, and because I also sincerely love watching the show to see who wins and to see what everyone's wearing and to yell at the screen and make fun of celebrities with a dozen friends at someone's apartment with beer and snacks, and with some stake in it, too (since I'll be betting on it -- two years ago I won over $200). It's one of my favorite days of the year.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 18:58 (seventeen years ago) link

and why would you know about a movie with no Oscar buzz attached to it, right?

No. More like, why would I NOT know about a movie WITH Oscar buzz?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 19:02 (seventeen years ago) link

I can understand that, though personally I have too much trouble getting past the things I hate about it (which are the standard typical things to hate about awards shows) to enjoy it.

n/a (n/a), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

When is it, John? (too lazy to look)

3.5 hours left of this dumbaroo work day...

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link

So... Does anyone have a rather nice bike they have abandoned temporarily which would like to come live with me for 3 months? I'm thinking - just thinking, mind you - of training for a triathalon.

HAY JORDAN:

In New Orleans, Bands Struggle to Regain Footing

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 19:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, unlike the Grammys, I do think that they "get it right" once in a while. (And actually, it's not that the Grammys are "wrong," it's more like they're an exercise in futility, since thousands of albums come out each year and you can only hear so many.) Obv. they're going to be disproportionately tilted toward star-studded blockbusters, and there are some major embarrassments every year, but it's also awesome to see someone like Ryan Gosling nominated for a movie that's made under $5 million, and for which was probably my favorite single cinematic performance last year.

Oscars are Sunday night.

hey can someone fill me in on tasering story

Del Monte Young (ex machina), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 19:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Did they ever figure out why Shavers was shot? (I guess Jordan is out for the day....)

Whatsay some of us organize a little road trip? I have a hankering for New Orleans!

I say with conviction that I WILL be in NO for Carnival next year. The only thing that can keep me away is being a FT student, or perhaps death.

Metrosexual Healing (crunkleJ), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 19:16 (seventeen years ago) link

What tasering story? In Chicago? Google search found only pretty old stories.

Metrosexual Healing (crunkleJ), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 19:17 (seventeen years ago) link

i know what tasering of which he speaks but do not know details. i do not believe the gentleman in question was actually tasered. though he was obviously threatened with it.

chicago kevin cleaned a lot of plates in memphis (chicago kevin), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 19:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Errr, John, now you've lost me. By saying they sometimes get it right, you're conceding that it's even possible to pick a "BEST PICTURE" or whatever, which to me is something that's stupid to even try to do. But this is probably a discussion that we don't want to get into. We've probably even had this discussion before.
