Put "Love vs. Distance" on my singles list last year, came pretty close to including "Istegade" this year. Am already kinda regretting not doing it, actually. I like everything I've heard and will be checking out those links w/heightened interest--thank you!

I don't think I was very kind about this in the Total 7 thread. Thought it was pretty cheesy & obvious at first until I heard it in a set with some contrast around it. Still a tiny bit unconvinced tbh. One trick pony? (downloading that set now of course).

fandango, is it something about the production? too hermetic, maybe, and then the self-conscious glitches to rough it up?

It just sounds a bit TOO easy!

I know, I know, it's an illogical criticism (why shouldn't house/techno be as easy to make and predictable to compose as guitar/bass/drums if it works?) but this stuff seems almost designed to aggravate Kompakt haterz "nu-trance, there's nothing to it". It reminds me of Border Community stuff to me, but without even their IDM twitching. It doesn't feel self-concious in a glitch way, maybe in a bit TOO twee/cheese way. It is very pleasant.

I don't feel this about "For Dan" (and prob. other tracks) though.

i think i know how you feel about "nu-trance" hating, i definitely feel it

well I definitely read it, IRL I'm not sure anyone (maybe Jay Haze...) gives a toss? of techno labels with some level of mainstream penetration, m_nus are probably way more bitched about? Total 7 definitely had me agreeing with some of the doubters for the first time, but that was for more than just The Field's tracks. And their Immer track (For Dan) is a real highlight.

responding to the second post: i love that it moves around too much. i think it's its saving grace actually. that and the soul usage.

The Sun & Ice EP is so, so good but Istegade is probably my least favourite on there. It sounds more like glitched-up French house to me (that particular track, not the EP as a whole).

hearing 'Under The Ice' for the first time now and liking altho can't help thinking more of an Allien-esque vocal presence would improve it (for me). also would like those arpeggiated sequences to be both more pronounced (hmm, do i just mean louder?) and a bit 'wilder' at certain times.
