MESA, Ariz. — The good news on the first day of workouts for Cubs pitchers and catchers Thursday was that Mark Prior and Wade Miller both threw off a mound. The bad news was that Kerry Wood was sidelined with an injury.
Wood bruised his right side when he fell out of a hot tub at his home Monday night. He’ll be sidelined four to five days. His ego was hurt more than his rib cage.
“I’m just getting ready for Spring Training, feeling good,” Wood said. “I [got out of the tub] and landed on my stomach and my chest and didn’t feel too good. It’s that time of year for me.”
Wood, limited to four starts last season because of shoulder problems, had been throwing well the last two months leading up to the start of camp. This was not how he wanted to start Spring Training.
“I’ve got six weeks to get ready,” he said. “I feel like I need 2 1/2 [weeks]. I was ready to go. I’d like to show people I’m ready instead of getting ice packs and people asking me questions. I am ready to go, I will be ready to go.”

LOL
Righetti had no idea how much Zito would alter his motion until seeing No. 75 on the mound.
"I looked at his tapes from Oakland, so that was a waste of time," Righetti said.

does this deserve a siren?
TAMPA, Fla. -- Alex Rodriguez admitted the obvious today, saying his relationship with Derek Jeter has "changed," and it's no longer the tight friendship that it once was a decade ago.Even though it's long been apparent they have not been tight since Rodriguez took shots at him in an Esquire article seven years ago, Rodriguez has always insisted they were close friends.
But earlier today, as Rodriguez sat in the home dugout here at Legends Field, he expressed an interest to stop all the "lying."
"I think it's important to cut the ----," he said. "I think when you get in all the BS, people start assuming things are worse than what they are, which they're not. But they are obviously not as great as they used to be, when we were like blood brothers."
Rodriguez described their relationship as a "good working relationship. I cheer very hard for him. He cheers for me. And most importantly we're both trying to win a world championship."
