me (2:32:38 PM): i think we were super obnoxious as hosts
me (2:32:50 PM): but not obnoxious enough because some people liked us
dave: (2:32:52 PM): that's what pete said
dave (2:32:58 PM): that's also what he said
me (2:32:57 PM): did he tell you the flipper thing?
me (2:33:03 PM): it was pretty funny
dave (2:33:04 PM): he said two people got it right
dave (2:33:10 PM): probably just cuz you shout flipper every week
me (2:33:42 PM): oh no, not that part - this one team was handing in their music round answer sheet and was like "what happened to the flipper round? we studied the wikipedia page all day!"
me (2:33:52 PM): and i looked down at their answer sheet and realized they'd gotten the flipper question wrong
dave (2:34:10 PM): haha
dave (2:34:21 PM): you gave them a bonus point?
me (2:34:36 PM): no, it gets better
me (2:35:03 PM): at the bar later they were like "you guys were totally great hosts, but we were so ready for a flipper round. we knew the years it was on, the cast, the plots...what happened?"

guy from admin group: "blah blah blah we're doing a manpower study, here is how we want you to fill out the spreadsheet with your activities, we want to see where we can shift personnel to cover some things and support some other activities blah blah blah"

me: "are MITRE taking part in this?"

guy from admin group, to other guy in admin group: "uh?"

other guy: "No, not this time."

me: "Surprise."

a_p (a_p), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 14:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't even care that I'm having to detail my bullshit in the spreadsheet. It's just that I'd rather have a boss who has the fucking fortitude to come down and say to our faces "I'm getting rid of the incident response team, it's just as well anyway because I don't trust any of you people and I refuse to give you access to the tools you need to actually do your job, so it's not like anybody will miss them."

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 29 November 2006 15:04 (seventeen years ago) link

alex OTM, if you register you can never, ever change your settings and wtf should you register at all in that case. So it's a pain in a horse's ass to sit and try to wade through any of this.

Tom I don't understand a goddamn thing you are talking about.

Everyone, what do you think of people who are TOO STUPID TO READ YOUR E-MAIL SIGNATURE TO GET YOUR PHONE NUMBER???

Also, due to lack of registration abilities I am just randomly picking names I've used in the past thanks to saved forms function on firefox. ANYONE have any clue wtf this particular posting name is about????

sotb was where everyone in new england bought fireworks in the 70s and early 80s before new hampster made them legal again. every winter in the weird suburban enclave where i grew up there would be conversations along the lines of "you're going to florida? you driving? hey, on the way back could you stop in south carolina and convert this mortgage payment into roman candles?"

and that's why the fourth of july always reminds me of drunk suburban dads chucking m-80s at each other.

otto, that is part of the reason why my mom's family used to stay there on trips down to SC to see my aunt. That and the fact that SotB was apparently as long as my grandfather was willing to drive with my grandmother in the car.

ranking states, uh, best: NY, SC which I have never been to but I am certain is GREAT, CA. worst: VA ultimate #1 not a bro by furthest votes, CT, NM.

A friend of mine got the groupons and that's how I finally saw the place. But their regular rate is pricey imho for what they have--$20 something, and its $75 a year for a membership- it gets you a 5 percent discount on lunch at The Source by Wolfgang Puck and Advance notice of cutting-edge programs and other stuff

I like old buildings as much as anyone but that Ruined Capitol site is ridiculously one sided and would be better off without the copy.

Also phrases like "When we set out to replace our European and American architectural heritage" always set off warning bells for me like maybe the writer is trying to say something else...
