I have only seen bits of the scene John describes above. Hilarious! (Well, ate least when MST3K supplies commentary.)

Jeff Goldblum is hot in that weird "he's a loose cannon" kind of way.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Also in that weird "he looks like a sheepdog fucked a rhesus monkey" way?

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I was asking Dan! I don't know!

But still I have to question anyone who's close friend with Tom Cruise (I really hate the guy in case you can't tell.)

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan, you slay me. I'm not saying he's handsome. Just that some women like crazy men.

Here's the link to the MST3K/Armageddon clip.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, Tom Cruise a total douche; you won't get any argument from me there. I just really admire Will Smith for having the guts to follow his artistic talent rather than his academic talent.

Sara, by the logic you are presenting, women should REALLY be throwing their panties at HOWIE MANDEL. I really hope that is not the case.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Howie Mandel... no. Too far in the direction of "completely dorky." Also, I'm sorry to be the one to have to tell you this, but there is no logic involved in the subject of which you speak.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of think he's cute too.

but not howie mandel. no way.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:34 (seventeen years ago) link

LOL. Still... yeah, it's the loose cannon thing. He's funny and he's crazy. I'm sorry, some of us like that.

See also: my friend who loves teh super-old guys (the youngest star I remember her having a crush on was Martin Sheen. We had a Martin Sheen film festival once!). Also, my insane crush on the guy who plays Hurley on LOST (Jorge Garcia). Okay, I won't lie and say I don't think Naveen Andrews is hotter, but... still, I'm half in love with Hurley!

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:35 (seventeen years ago) link

lost is pretty yummy. . .sayeed, sawyer, ana-lucia. hurley, hmm.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:36 (seventeen years ago) link

You are so right. Every one of the actors is eye candy. Ugh, except the guy who plays Jack. I hate his hair and his character.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:36 (seventeen years ago) link

I have to say, though, that I think the woman who plays Sun is more attractive than Ana-Lucia. (Also, the guy who plays Sun's husband = super hot.)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Sun = PHWOAR

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:39 (seventeen years ago) link

ana-lucia became pretty one-diminsonal there near the end. but when she was first introduced she was definitely right up my alley.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Seriously, when the least attractive woman on your show is CLAIRE, you've got a show full of massively attractive women.

(Yeah, I said Rose is more attractive than Claire.)

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Claire is cute, but boring (and blonde, and we all know I don't love the blondes).

Also, every time I see her, I hear "Maybe the dingoes stole your bahy-bee" in my head...

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

I really missed a golden opportunity to coin the phrase "C on Tylers" up there.

Every famous person who's joined scientology that I know of has slowly/quickly lost whatever mind they had to begin with.
They were usually egoticital and arrogant to begin with, and that just explodes at a certain point after they get all scientolog-y.
Hence: "Battlefield Earth."
"Geee, no one will make this piece of shit L Ron Hubbard novel, even though somehow I think he's a genius. I guess I'll make the whole thing myself...and star in it...and suck at it..."

HAY GUYS

WE GOT PICTURE + NEW SONGZ

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 17:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I love how, in the photo, you look like a scary badass guy.

Also love "Personal Jesus."

Also, I just ordered a bunch of stuff for A. for Xmas. So at least I'll have something for St. Nicholas Day... one of the things I ordered is a c.d. that he's totally unfamiliar with (as am I, actually), but I thought it would be fun. (Actually, Dan, this is your fault since it is a band that you mentioned liking... and I dimly remembered the name - I listened to some clips at iTunes and think it will work.)

Seriously, Dan, why don't you smile in your UHF photo? I'm afraid of you now!

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 17:49 (seventeen years ago) link

i had no idea you were in a band, dan.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 18:07 (seventeen years ago) link

We had a smiling photo! I don't know what happened to it.

The band kind of spontaneously formed last year when a bunch of my coworkers realized that enough of us were musicians on the side that we could put together a credible band. We dicked around for about 6 months and then decided to pursue it as a serious side hobby. We actually just put out our initial feelers for opening gigs this week!

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 18:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Was the band Dan suggested "Foetus", by chance?

COUGH UP THE INFO ROBINSON, WE ARE CURIOUS.

"Creeping...me...out.

Just a tad. No offense."
I'm playing that game because of the uncomfortable laugh.
Thing is, by the end of that series my uncomfortable laugh had grow into I full-on stomach-ache-inducing choking laugh.

Why? Because in the last scene, when there's this FUCKIGN ABOUT TIME love confession, A HUGE (like 10 feet tall, each one 3 feet wide) bouquet of white lilies bloom behind them, backlit, I think a stained glass window is involved in that imagery, and I DON'T think there was actually one in that room.
THAT is the moment I knew the show's makers either had the best, or NO sense of humour.

That's the one anime I'm making sure to buy. Might get the books if they have furigana.

I feel good.
First good night's sleep in 2 weeks.
Long story. You don't wanna hear about it.(I dooz that enoughs)
Suffice it to say I just bid on some used Juzu to hang in my room.

Geza T (The GZeus), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 18:36 (seventeen years ago) link

No, John, not Foetus. (Can you sort out for me the difference between "Foetus" and "Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel," btw? Are they even related? Another nagging question that I've not gotten around to asking.)

I chose a random Shriekback c.d. That should mystify him. (After 13 or 14 Christmases, it is hard to conjure up a total surprise.)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:08 (seventeen years ago) link

They are the same band; every album was released under a different name that contained the word "Foetus".

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:13 (seventeen years ago) link

that "o" really bothers me.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I just assume they are British, and thus spell slightly differently. Of course, I have no idea here. (Also - thanks Dan!)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Transplanted NYC Aussie via London, actually.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:29 (seventeen years ago) link

No wonder they spell it like that!

Honestly, I don't think I've heard them since John showed up with a tape about 100 years ago. I don't remember disliking it, though. Just thinking, "what the hell kind of name is that?!" But it's memorable.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 19:35 (seventeen years ago) link

You know it is a sad day when your friend's 11 year old daughter is taller than you are. Unfair!

what the hell is going on

HSTNGS: more like Wastings!

...i think that when i get home i am going to get lit and head to the island! which, btw, is where we had our 5 year reunion. discus.

grbchv! (gbx), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 03:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Let's see, what is going on... it's not very cold out. John just finished his novel (as in writing one). Ned is likely close on his heels. I went Xmas shopping again and found a weird item for my husband's stocking (it's an "Office Voodoo Kit;" I almost bought one for FB, too, since he's so cagey about what he actually does for a living). Dan is still Dan (allegedly).

What is up in MT? How's orgo? What is up?

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 03:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Montana: totally freezing
Orgo: took my lab final today, aced it. did not ace my test from over a week ago. :-/
What is up: my esteem for my roommate (he cleaned the kitchen), my blood alcohol level (just opened wine).

grbchv! (gbx), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 03:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Minnesota - not as cold as you'd expect (now I've cursed it, though).
Orgo - will always suck - glad you aced the lab final, though. I always found the labs easier than the theory. Anatomy, though, both are easy. (Also, I talked to my ex-who-is-applying-to-medical-school today. Bizarre conversation. But at least he didn't start with the "why aren't you going to med school" thing again.)

I'm envying your wine. I am going to have some chocolate and a glass of milk. My intention is to go to bed early and get up early to lift weights and then study for my lab quiz. (My damn final isn't until Dec. 13). An exciting (but sadly sober) evening awaits me!
