election day planner

what are l&j board pipples planning for november 4?

it will be november 5 afternoon here when the results come in. we are not going to work that day, we will be staying home and watching tv and making tacos and cheering on the new president barack obama<3<3 (or being very gloomy and conspiratorial and furious like the last two times) (and i most likely will be reading ilx as well.)

let's see. i most likely have the 4th off (i'd rather have the 5th obv but instead it's a 13-hour workday so yeech except hopefully i'll be on cloud 9 all day) so i'll spend the daytime trying not to hit refresh on political sites. lxy will get home around six, which is when we'll go full-on into BOOZE+SNACKS mode. national races should (cross fingers, knock on would) should play out pretty quick, and then we'll focus on the local stuff: light rail, governor. we might buy fireworks. i'll definitely hoot and holler out the front yard if all goes well. i'll be boozy as all hell, one way or another. it'll be a party of two, i'm thinking. my friends who i align with most closely, politically, don't live anywhere near. i'm not interested in hanging out with anyone who isn't as vehement as i. sound like a dick? i brook no dissension, don't care about alternate viewpoints. very few days allow for that, but it is my own home, after all.

i'll also get blazed in the front yard and check ilx occasionally. it can be such a good aggregator when a bunch of shit is going down.

what are other people doing?

i'm buying a bottle of champagne. with a blue label.

(too bad the dems color isn't yellow. then i would finally have an excuse to lay down the cash for a bottle of veuve clicquot.)

haha. good thing it's not yellow then. i'll have to find a yellow-wearing sports team.

there will be tears before the end of the night. i am confident they will be tears of happiness.

i heard a great piece on NPR, interviews with some residents of st. louis, asking what they will do on election night if obama wins. all of the ladies said they would cry, and then pray, and then hoot, holler, scream, run around, etc.

and a man told about a text message he had received, which maybe you've all heard already, but i like it:

i'll probably be hanging out with 1 or 2 people, but not sure where yet.

i like the sound of everyone's plans. i can't wait.
we are probably going to only be a party of two as well, it's not a day for listening to 'oh americans this, americans that,' i can't be bothered with any of that from people who could try scrutinising themselves if human improvement is so important to them. also i don't want to hear a single word of assassination prediction talk, which i hear every day here now and it makes me sick.

the new restaurant around the corner is bringing in a big screen tv i think im going to go down and watch there and eat mac & cheese and turkey meatloaf and flounder

i know, when i went down there to register, i thought "grady".

something made me think "grady" the other day, i think it was seeing someone who looked very pleased with himself, which grady usually does (in a good way, i like it).

my darling niece received an entire belgian school's worth of congratulations re. obama's win, and her host family had a celebration party the night after. so cute and wonderful.

I am invitinge you to a small, informal inauguration celebration on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 in my office. You can expect light refreshments and a photo opportunity with a special guest. The photo op is not something you want to miss!

Refreshments will be available between 8:15 am and 9:30 am or as long as supplies last. The photo opportunity will be available all day. You can bring your own camera or allow use mine.
