lxy, Saturday, 1 November 2008 01:27 (fifteen years ago) link

no, i was a little bit tempted to but i was afraid it would compromise his dogtegrity.

Thanks, I'll be here all week

jergins, Sunday, 2 November 2008 02:08 (fifteen years ago) link

the other day i took my dog for a walk and a small boy of about six wearing a white shirt with rolled up sleeves and a smart vest appeared from behind a hedge and patted him, and then told me he lives in papua new guinea and that are hardly any dogs there and the ones you see usually only have two legs. i said, only two, and he said yes, and also the bees over there are so big they eat birds. he made a large circle with his hands to show me the average diameter of the bees. i put a frightened look on my face and he gave a nonchalant shrug, then his eyes landed on some jacaranda petals on the ground and he said its all right because if you ever see a bee coming all you have to do is stick a flower petal onto your leg and it makes them stay away. i thanked him for the tip. he said actually there are quite a few dogs over there but you mainly see them in the company of women who are about to take them out of the country. then he said he hoped his flight home wasn't going to be bumpy. i said i was sure it wouldn't be and he looked very relieved and then we parted ways.

estela, Sunday, 2 November 2008 08:14 (fifteen years ago) link

how big was the diameter of the large bees?

max max max max, Sunday, 2 November 2008 13:21 (fifteen years ago) link

whoa i guess you could say that expression "the birds and the bees" takes on a whole new dimension in PNG

Lingbert, Sunday, 2 November 2008 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link

the diameter was as big as his hands would go. i think everything he said was a lie except the bit about not liking turbulence. he was a corker, i laughed all the way home.

estela, Sunday, 2 November 2008 21:23 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe he wasn't even from papua new guinea

lxy, Sunday, 2 November 2008 21:40 (fifteen years ago) link

i was that boy, once

jergins, Sunday, 2 November 2008 21:56 (fifteen years ago) link

well then <3<3<3 to you.

lxy, i think he was from png, he had the slightly anglicised accent of an ex-pat. so that is two true things.

estela, Sunday, 2 November 2008 22:19 (fifteen years ago) link

haha, jergins with your smart vest and your clever lies!

i was the 6 year old girl who always told the truth, all of it, all the time, to everyone, often in song. also i was always the first person on the block to introduce herself and welcome new neighbors.

lxy, Monday, 3 November 2008 01:55 (fifteen years ago) link

i am not like that any more.

lxy, Monday, 3 November 2008 01:56 (fifteen years ago) link

when i was six i wrote two stories, one was about an alien who went to school on the moon and the other was about a prairie dog and used thinly disguised versions of my friends as characters

when i was in elementary school (maybe 2nd grade?), i continuously bounced on my pogo ball from my house to my elementary school and back one weekend. i'm not sure how far it was. and i actually just went on google maps to find out how far. it seemed like much longer when i was a kid, and it's only actually about a mile round trip. but still. also, wtf the city has google street view! but seattle still doesn't. it was a trip seeing my old house though! this has also provided a brief but solid way for me to procrastinate.

this is a pogo ball for those who don't know:

as an experiment i subscribed (today) to a daily email from this board. it was sent at 4:05 pdt, and you posted "i just clicked on this board..." at 4:10, so the timing makes me wonder.

being an archivist at heart, i am going to maintain my subscription.

lxy, Sunday, 16 November 2008 01:24 (fifteen years ago) link
