she wondered if it was an economically viable place to rebuild since it was such a poor place to begin with and it was a drain on the country's resources even before the disaster.

ok, so, Jordan's band gives me severe permagrin. There is no way to leave a show with a brass band like that and not feel happy. I said to someone else tonight: you can arrive at almost any other kind of show -- rock, Broadway, puppetry, what have you -- in a sour mood, and leave in pretty much the same mood if you really set your mind to it. Not so with this music. Brass bands force the happy out of you, like leeches. I am a believer in brass.

Ok, not like leeches at all. I take back the leeches. Leeches are decidedly not happy things. I'm going to go practice my similes now. But I still love Jordan and his band.

Some restaurants in Chicago are ignoring the FG ban and serving it anyway, or offering it as a "complimentary" accompaniment to a dish since only the sale of FG is banned. Hot Doug's was issued a warning letter which the owner framed and displays.

"In a world of very limited public health resources we're being asked to drop some things so we can enforce a law like this," Hadac [spokesman for the Health Department] said. "With HIV/AIDS, cancer, West Nile virus and some of the other things we deal with, foie gras is our lowest priority."

I just bought wittle kitty beds for both kitties. This was after I noticed the smaller one sleeping in an unused paint pan I had left out, and it inspired pathos in me. I was like, "Oh, we can do better than this."

teasing your poultry (kenan), Saturday, 17 February 2007 22:06 (seventeen years ago) link

YAY! kitty already discovered it, jumped in, and started making biscuits with her paws. She feels love.

teasing your poultry (kenan), Saturday, 17 February 2007 22:08 (seventeen years ago) link

ok, she's back in my lap now. much as she love the cat bed, it does not generate heat. that's fine with me. they had heated beds (for about $70), but i can't afford that and don't even want it. if they have heat and furriness and a partially enclosed space, they will stay there forever and will only need me for food and will never use me for warmth again. this will equal sadness.

teasing your poultry (kenan), Saturday, 17 February 2007 22:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Dobbs!

Totally unrelated: You know what drives me nuts? When people who don't know did about how lawsuits work make a big stink about how "CRAAAAAZY" lawsuits are ruining the legal system. How can all these worthless lawsuits go to trial?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!

THEY CANNOT HI DERE SUMMARY JUDGMENT

I mean, I know. I know! I'm in law skoo and thus have a specialized body of knowledge that most people don't have. So most people don't know about civil procedure. And that's okay!!! I don't want people to know about civil procedure, or else they won't need lawyers and then the student loan people will come and harvest my organs because I can't pay them back in real money. BUT IF THAT IS THE CASE, SHUT YR FAT MOUTH ABOUT IT, OKAY???

teasing your poultry (kenan), Saturday, 17 February 2007 23:53 (seventeen years ago) link

The one that people always pull out is the "old lady sues McDonald's b/c coffee is hot LOL" but see here for a nice summary of the, you know, ACTUAL FACTS OF THE CASE. But pretty much whenever someone hears that some jagoff filed a lawsuit against Miller because he drank a quarter keg by himself and got alcohol poisoning or something like that there's a big "DEATH OF THE LEGAL SYSTEM OH NOES" stink, almost always made by people with 1) an agenda and 2) no fucking clue what they are actually talking about.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Saturday, 17 February 2007 23:57 (seventeen years ago) link

what agenda?

(i'm not trying to ask stupid questions, just simple ones)

Usually an argument that plaintiff's lawsuits are ruining the medical profession, or similar.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Sunday, 18 February 2007 00:04 (seventeen years ago) link

and wow, i never knew that about the McD's coffee case. Skin grafts? That's some hot-ass coffee. Company refusing to pay medical bills so she was forced to sue? You never hear about that.

Oh, I know that argument. It makes me want to kill. It makes me want to start the bloodbath at the corporate offices of insurance companies.

That's a pretty good explanation of what I'm talking about w/r/t the McDonald's coffee thing.

My point is that I hate that. My thing I hate. Let me show you it.

xp - yeah! I mean, srsly, the US legal system has some problems. Some big, fat, harmful-to-society problems that are very critique-worthy. But the fact that individuals are able to sue large companies for injuries and sometimes get judgments in their favor is not one of those problems. Unless you hate people and love giant corporations, which I understand some people do.

We bought wedding rings yesterday. Sarah's is tasteful, mine is crazy. I think it will give me superpowers. Then we went to Intelligentsia and I had a giant cup of coffee on an empty stomach so then when we had band practice I got all light-headed and woozy. Then we went to Earwax and had a giant linner.

What a weird night. On my way home from the fundraiser we played, my stomach started to hurt. By the time I got home, I was feeling really horrible: the pain had increased, I had the chills, and I was kind of dizzy, too. It was hard to sleep at first, but eventually I made it through the night, and now I'm more or less fine. What the hell. I had a Tofurkey sandwich, some tortilla chips, and an apple at about 6 PM, then a gin and tonic and three beers at Nick's Uptown.

Is Trolls 2 something you would have needed to see Trolls to really understand?

This was a fucking epic weekend, guys. It was great to see y'all, I wish I could have hung out more (and in a place where I could talk without shouting/coughing).

We accidentally recorded a live album at the GM! Rather, the bandleaders decided to record both shows (hence that mic by your booth that I didn't notice) but didn't tell anyone in the band so that we wouldn't be nervous and play timidly.

I got made on Saturday (mob style but not Pesci style). Long story but I was awarded my embroidered Digd0wn letter jacket for my years of service.

And I met a girl???
