i just entered my leave request for next month and even after taking those 4 days i still have over 170 hours of vacation left.

I have 19 days of vacation this year, 9 of which I have to take before the end of June. BUT AS USUAL I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ON THE OFF CHANCE THAT THE BAND MIGHT TOUR, JUST LIKE WE HAVEN'T FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS.

well, to be fair, until this year i hadn't taken two consecutive days off since june of '03 and that was the only vacation i took in the last 6 years.

Almost all my vacation in the last two years has gone to band stuff. Taking an actual vacation to, like, go somewhere or relax is almost inconceivable.

(this of course was a sticking point in my last relationship)

Holy crap, you guys have a lot of vacation.

That's 10 days (two work weeks) of yearly vacation, plus 9 carry-over days, because I kept holding on to last year's vacation on the off chance, etc. etc. My trip to Montreal last year came from 2005's carry-over days, once I realized that the band wouldn't be touring before July.

Peoples who are planning on going to the GM tonight: what time are you thinking of arriving? I'm trying to work out a ride, and also considering seating, etc.

xposts I have 21 days to deal with somehow, and absolutely no clue as to what to do with them. I'm kinda leaning towards Costa Rica.

I'm back.

OK, so Jenny's professor said that she wondered if it was an economically viable place to rebuild since it was such a poor place to begin with and it was a drain on the country's resources even before the disaster.

I made the argument that it was culturally a very important place, and home to thousands of people, to which she responded that it's too bad it had to happen, but culture doesn't pay the bills.

ok, so, Jordan's band gives me severe permagrin. There is no way to leave a show with a brass band like that and not feel happy. I said to someone else tonight: you can arrive at almost any other kind of show -- rock, Broadway, puppetry, what have you -- in a sour mood, and leave in pretty much the same mood if you really set your mind to it. Not so with this music. Brass bands force the happy out of you, like leeches. I am a believer in brass.
