BAN FRIDAY ON THE PORCH

Mr. Que (Party with me Punker), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 14:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Tad, Steve isn't actually a moderator any more. The reason I haven't banned him is mostly because I haven't really noticed him. A lot of those thread titles aren't any glaringly worse than the sort of corny indie fux0r threads that I gloss over on a regular basis.

I mean, this guy is essentially harmless if very stupid and annoying, right?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 16:13 (seventeen years ago) link

(I'm asking seriously what the problem is here, I can't be arsed to trawl through endless threads to find out. If he's doing something worse then just starting dumb threads then let me know).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 16:15 (seventeen years ago) link

He constantly links to his own myspace blog, he asks the same questions over and over all throughout the internet, on the NME boards, and Sound Opinions and the Alternative Press boards. That said, the dude does ask the most ridiculous questions, and as long as you don't get sucked into his suckitude, he's hysterical.

Mr. Que (Party with me Punker), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess it's OK to be boring if you're not posting loads or starting lots of dull threads.

(That's not sarc btw)

M Grout (Mark Grout), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 17:10 (seventeen years ago) link

He does seem to have calmed down on pimping his blog on recent questions, and he hasn't been posting inane things on inappropriate boards (although I banned him from IMM after the "Moustache" fiasco, so who knows?)

Still, I just read the cache of the "Louie Louie" thread, and it's pretty classic trolling obnoxiousness, so I'd keep an eye on the little fella.

Norman Phay (Pashmina), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 10:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Wasn't there some thread on the Noise board that also used the phrase 'a coon's age'? ironic no doubt, but this seemed the same as that really. i don't think he was being deliberately/intentionally racist altho he was deliberately winding people up.

not that i particularly care whether he's able to post or not really.

sede vacante (blueski), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 11:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Ah, I see now. I hadn't, before.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 11:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Hmm. I thought that his final post, the 'calling a spade a spade' one, was actually a semi-amusing attempt to join me in my parody of words and phrases that can appear to be racist but actually aren't (after I reluctantly accepted his perhaps tenuous exlanation for 'a coon's age'). But to have qualms with the final straw disregards the camel-load of bullshine PEW's inflicted upon the rest of us, so I shall cease my defence here.

Besides, the phrase 'calling a spade a spade' by origin at least is racist whichever way you put it, despite its apparently diverse usage.

sede vacante (blueski), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 15:27 (seventeen years ago) link

How is "calling a spade a spade" racist? A spade is a garden tool, that's where the saying comes from...

Basically using the phrase a 'coon's age' is just a common phrase I use, being brought up in a rural central illinois, there was no racist connotation meant by it whatsoever. What pissed me off was the white-guilt idiot who implied that it was meant to be racist. So my calling a spade a spade comment was just to poke more fun at the idiotic ways of those who suffer from white guilt. I guess I thought this board had more of a sense of humor--or at least as much sense of humor as a typical Daily Show bit...
Which just shoes me that this place isnt as cool, hip, with-it or tuned on, as I thought it was...

PEW (PEW), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

"Coon's age" is not in and of itself a racist phrase. I started that thread, and the phrase's use was ironic, but only because it's antiquated, not because it's racist. Obv. I am aware of the racist implications of the word "coon," however. Also, I don't know what PEW said.

If there's anything that fascinates me as much as trolls, it's people who are so clueless about how they come across. Back in '92 or so I was in an APA with a guy who was such a cunt to his wife that she drove to one of the Bay Area bridges, got out of her car and made the big jump. And he was all "I hope I find someone else soon, my kids are a double handful to have to deal with by myself."
