You know what computery thing I really hate? The self-service scanner checkout in our local Tesco. Scan something, it tells you to put the item in a bag, you put it in a bag, its stupid fucking voice goes "unexpected item in bagging area" really loudly, then you remove the (surely expected, since you've just scanned it) item and it goes off on one at you for not scanning it and placing it in a bag, even though you did that and it shouted at you for doing so! Also, when your bag's full and you take it away to start putting other stuff into a second carrier bag, it shouts at you for removing the bag, then starts again with its "unexpected item in bagging area" shite if you put it back. FUCK OFF, MACHINE. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO MAKE SHOPPING EASIER!

Grrrrrrr.

Use proper checkouts. Save jobs.

I share your frustration alisa but when available I always use those. I don't like making small talk with people!

It used to be soooo much quicker in our local Sainsbury's to jump the queues and use those machines, even with their constant "unexcepted item in the bagging area" complaints. But then they redesigned and took the machines away ;_;

The crappiness of the machines is totally keeping people in jobs, because they are all hanging around ready to intervene when machine fucks shit up. I do only use them rarely, when queues for people who get paid to know how to work tills are all really long. Then I remember why no-one is using the self-service one.

for people who get paid to know how to work tills

see this is a problem. Half the time the people checking me out are clueless about how to do their job. I want to shove them out of the way and do it myself. it would be quicker.

In the last week, new office slang has emerged in my workplace: having a rhino (ie. a long, angry, rather nasal growl at yr screen).

This is because our new website launched on Wednesday and the content management system can be a little unhelpful (read stupid) sometimes.
