Ushanka hats, S/D (plus dumb question about ebay)

I am looking for one of these. Anyone have one, is there advice to be taken into account? What megapixel rate is best etc, hard-drive size, that kind of thing...

So far Ebay seems the best bet. Tho this is the first time I've bought anything on Ebay...correct me if I'm wrong but aren't some people paying more stuff in auctions than they would for the same item in buy it now?

And if they're paying less surely the item seller (when it's a shop) is kind of stupid? What am I missing here?

I am new to ebay, but in the past few weeks I have become totally obsessed with it. I have had some fantastic bargains (I bought a brand new pair of Ugg boots from someone in Australia, that arrived within 5 days and were less than half the price of the same ones in the UK, even including the postage!)

I've noticed that people end up paying more in a bidding war that they would do on Buy-It-Now. I think they get taken over by an hysterical buying fever, and don't know what they're doing.

Or do they just not see the buy it now...it's weird.

It amazes me that so many people end up paying more for an item on ebay than a shop-bought version, too. Especially when there's postage to be added to it.

I wanted to buy a pink Radley coin purse for a friend of mine as a Christmas present, and people were regularly bidding over £20 for the ebay ones plus a few quid postage, whereas they're only £13 in John Lewis. I think people do get caught up in the excitement of bidding against other people to 'win' something - either that, or they just have no idea of the going rate for the thing they're after. It's bizarre all right.

I don't have a Ushanka, but I have a Budenovka.

I'm down for runnin' up on them crackers in the city hall... (papa november), Monday, 4 December 2006 12:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I would like a budenovka, was it found through eBay? (I love the pics with it, you should post one here).

I don't understand... What sort of a hat has pixels and hard drives?

Re: Buy It Now - I have only ever used Buy It Now. The other way of doing it seems convoluted and anxious.

I love these hats, but don't over do it (Beckham style):

There's meant to be an Apple one in January.

stet (stet), Monday, 4 December 2006 13:52 (seventeen years ago) link

So it's a nickname for something that's not a hat?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 4 December 2006 13:52 (seventeen years ago) link

GAWD PVNCH (yournullfame), Monday, 4 December 2006 14:08 (seventeen years ago) link

just 20 minutes and my max bid is way above the current one...

this looks good...

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 4 December 2006 17:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I now realise the thrill of the auction is not to be sniffed at...

8 minutes....has my opponent got anything left....

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 4 December 2006 17:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Everything happens in the last 30 seconds, so look sharp.

Amazon is the new home of the idiot. I've just sold a 1993 copy of Abba Gold for £3.95 plus whatever I can scrape off the postage credit. Don't think I'd get that at the Record & Tape Exchange.

I had a strong desire to message the losing bidder triumphantly...

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 4 December 2006 18:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Do it in Russian!

I've got 22 minutes left on a book I'm bidding for, and 2 hours on a vinyl 45 I want to buy - both of which I want to give my Bloke as stocking fillers for Christmas. Nobody has bid against me for the past week, so I'm excitedly keeping my fingers crossed!

C J (C J), Monday, 4 December 2006 18:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Yay! I won the book one.

I am now the proud owner of "How to Make Knives - a fantastic knife making book" (my Bloke wants to make his own damascus steel bushcraft knife)

Cute; are you going to wear the badges too?

Matilda Wormwood (Mary ), Monday, 4 December 2006 19:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll cross that bridge when I come to it...

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 4 December 2006 19:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Wow!
