i was in bed, on Oahu about 100 miles from where the quake hit. i woke up right before it hit and my bed started vibrating pretty hard. then the power went out and stayed out for about 12 hours. now its back on but realILX is still broken.

the end.

The intersection of Kapi'olani Boulevard and Kalakaua Avenue was left without power after the earthquake, and drivers had to negotiate with a mix of caution and aloha early in the morning, before police began directing traffic.

THE HORROR! Those people! My God!

StanM (StanM), Monday, 16 October 2006 08:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Was the earthquake caused by everyone in Hawaii taking part in a charity limbo competition simultanously?

6.6! 40 aftershocks! glad no tsunami followed.

drivers had to negotiate with a mix of caution and aloha

WTF does aloha even mean anymore? I'm okay with having one word for hello and goodbye, but it just seems that someone's trying to push buttons.

nklshs (nklshs), Monday, 16 October 2006 12:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Grady, I want this all fixed by the time my family's over there next year.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 16 October 2006 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Some of my coworkers are there for business right now. They got stranded i.e. a couple days of vacation because of this.

JordanC (JordanC), Monday, 16 October 2006 15:20 (seventeen years ago) link

JordanC- It's pretty cloudy and rainy and when the sun does come out its fucking humid as hell, so you can rest easy knowing they're not enjoying Hawaii that much.

naus, Aloha means more than hello and goodbye. From wikipedia: The Aloha Spirit is often described as a sense of care and hospitality to those around as well as respect for their personhood, even in the face of stressful environments, occasions or people.

I'd like to go to the beach on Thanksgiving!

naus (naus), Friday, 24 November 2006 22:12 (seventeen years ago) link

There were some people who actually brought thanksgiving dinner to the beach! I was just surfing. Then I went home and cooked.
