i was hiking with this girl the other day and we came across some berries on a bush and she just started tossing them in her mouth. i was like "do you know what those are?" and she was like "nah" and kept on hiking.

is she ok? i am interested in knowing.

i really can't describe what it tasted like. one of the guys i was with is really into mushrooms and he looked it up in his mushroom book. i guess lobster mushrooms, which apparently are pretty expensive at the store, are technically not a single mushroom. the orange stuff is another type of fungus that is parasitizing a mushroom. so he says. anyway, he and one other person had tried some an hour or so before. however, i still don't feel comfortable eating mushrooms out in the woods unless someone knows completely what they're talking about, so i just chewed a little bit to taste it and then spat it out. ptooie!

i would never eat a berry if i didn't know what it was. that is unwise. i do know numerous edible berries, though, so i scarf berries down all the time. yum!

at work a couple weeks ago, we were walking up a creek tributary in a semi-rural neighborhood looking for a plant called policeman's helmet. in this neighborhood, there were two hot topic looking girls, maybe 14 or 15 years old, cruising around the streets in a dune buggy for some reason. they weren't going anywhere, just driving around and around and chatting to each other. once they drove by me and one of them shouted "You're cute!" later, they passed me again, and one of them shouted "You're cute for an old guy!" later still, they passed us again, and they shouted in unison at me: "We love you!" it was pretty strange.

it is an invasive plant that often spreads along streams because its seeds float and then run aground further downstream. we were trying to get rid of it. but i don't do that job anymore.

it is a really alien-looking/seeming plant. pix don't do it justice. you'd have to actually see it irl.

last night at the bus stop, a homeless guy hung two plastic baggies from different branches on the same tree (he speared the bags with the branches). one bag had candies (a couple hershey's kisses and one other thing) and the other had hotel bathroom toiletries like soap, shampoo, et al.
