True? What are some others? Hunting for treasure? Opening a record store?
― jergins, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 09:29 (thirteen years ago) link
yes, true. for me, yes to
bookshop living off the land hunting for treasure
and add
just walking away
― lxy, Thursday, 3 May 2007 03:19 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah.
just walking. walking and walking.
living in a train car
nonstop travel with my life in one suitcase

yes. yes.
another:
invent something... grand or important.
― lxy, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:26 (thirteen years ago) link
start a business.
invent something otm
― jergins, Friday, 4 May 2007 11:37 (thirteen years ago) link
start a business: yes. those sweet little specialty stores we went to on tammy's shopping day right before i left bln (bag age, mara schmuck) revived this fantasy for me. i just feel like i could do that shit better than so many of the people who are doing it, ya know? (not referring to the two mentioned above... those are great.)
open a dance club.
― lxy, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:08 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah open a dance club. or do a dance monthly or weekly. i was thinking about 'sunday afternoon social' earlier tonight and how fun that'd be
― jergins, Friday, 4 May 2007 19:42 (thirteen years ago) link
yes to sunday afternoon social; sounds very fun. this slots in with my new innovation, sunday night cocktails, the perfect answer to "sunday: the slow burn. "
monthlies check. weeklies check.

sort of silly and decadent but:

Owning a movie house in a smallish town and showing wonderful classic films that everyone in town has never seen, but comes to and loves.
― Jaq, Friday, 4 May 2007 23:59 (thirteen years ago) link
that's lovely, jaq. there's a theater like that in dayton, wa (right, jergins?). well, he should tell you about it since he's been there and i haven't.
anyway, yes to that!

― jergins, Saturday, 5 May 2007 11:09 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah dayton. they do arty movies and some popular movies and community theater. the inside is lovely.
i think maybe jaq and i talked about it once but there's a rundown old theater in the center of pasco with a great marquee, all boarded up iirc. maybe she told me it was going going gone? it was one of those theaters that makes you dream, though, at least from the outside.
― jergins, Saturday, 5 May 2007 11:11 (thirteen years ago) link
We would park outside that Pasco theater on Saturdays when we'd go to the farmers' market. There were flurries of restoration activity, and long pauses of silence. Nothing could be seen through the windows, even where the brown paper was torn by the ticket window. I hope it opens someday with a grand fiesta and shows the films of Robert Rodriguez and Almodovar with episodes of a serialized telenovela to start each.
There's not much I would go back to the tri-cities for, but I would go back for this.

my first thought is always HAVE a patron, but wouldn't it also be great to BE the patron?
in the perfect world, first HAVE, then BE. PERfect world.

I will someday open a restaurant based on the principles of SAME (so all may eat). Two kinds of delicious stew or casserole (veg and not veg), maybe a salad, a freshly baked bread of some kind, butter, water, milk, or tea to drink, a simple dessert. Everyone pays what they can, everyone eats. Lunch and dinner only, maybe just on weekends at first, or a few days a week. Checkered table cloths and a comfy relaxed atmosphere.
― Jaq, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 23:35 (thirteen years ago) link
Jaq, I love your thinking. Your restaurant sounds much like my fantasy restaurant, which is called Kitchen. Super simple, cute. I never thought about what people would pay -- my fantasy is limited to the design and the fare -- but the principle of SAME sounds like a terrific one, so that is now officially part of my fantasy.

live in an industrial part of town with no neighbors, other than daytime industry. be loud and carefree. have dance parties. make art. be self-sufficient.

i have a pact with my girlfriend where if were both unhappy with our career/life situation in 5 years were going to move somewhere sort of rural, maybe upstate new york or southern new jersey or somewhere in rhode island, and open a tiny little restaurant/bar with my dad as the chef with no more than 5-6 tables and just one menu every day based on what we can scrounge up and well just close the restaurant when we run out of ingredients
― max max max max, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 22:31 (twelve years ago) link
um thats a little more complicated than the actual pact which is just that well open a small business if we hate our lives in five years
opening a bar is probably a bigger fantasy for me than opening a bookstore, but bookstore rates pretty high
