i took a public speaking class too, at community college in orlando, so i can say with authority that lingbert is correct about obama's speaking skills.

i never took a public speaking class but my dad called me to say 'he sure knows how to deliver it' so you must be right

Spontaneous Celebration in DC

It's been an exciting night here in DC. We had been hearing all the horns beeping and people yelling, but then seeing the spontaneous celebration in DC in front of the White House, we decided it was time to step away from the laptops and join in. We hopped into the car and headed down to the White House - or at least tried to. The spontaneous celebration was so large that the police had begun to block off the streets. We got on foot and headed to the White House.

As we walked through the streets, people were screaming, horns were all blaring with a "beep-beep-beep" in "yes we can" tempo. All the cars has people piled into them, flags and Obama signs flying, encouraging the street crowd and vice versa. THe whole scene prompted Joe to say that he'd never seen anything like it in DC.

When we got to the White House, the crowd out front was screaming, chanting, and all in all just having a great time. Washington isn't sleeping tonight, and I'm sure neither is George Bush.

when i got to work: hugs all around, more tears, smiling smiling smiling....

someone in our neighborhood hung up a sheet on the front of their house, next to an american flag:

"Right now, I cannot even imagine running for national office in 2012,'' she told CNN. "When I say that, though, of course, coming on the heels of an outcome that I certainly didn't anticipate and had not hoped for.''

She added: "I mean, it is a time for all of us to work together. So having said that, 2012 sounds so far off that I can't even imagine what I'd be doing then.''

Palin, whose socially conservative views and lack of experience were seen as having put off some independent voters, dismissed reports that people had voted against the Republican ticket because of her.

"I don't think anybody should give Sarah Palin that much credit that I would trump an economic time in this nation that occurred about two months ago,'' she told CNN.

"That my presence on the ticket would trump the economic crisis that America found itself in a couple of months ago and attribute John McCain's loss to me.''

But she said if her presence had in any way damaged McCain's chances at the polls she would regret it.

"If I cost John McCain even one vote, I am sorry about that because John McCain, I believe, is the American hero.

"I had believed it was his time. He being so full of courage and wisdom and experience. That knowledge he embodies, I believe he would have been the best pick. But that is not the Americans' choice at this time.''

I was flipping through several channels last night (C-SPAN 1, 2, and 3, BBC, CNN International) and one of them, I think it was C-SPAN 1, focused on and continued to return to Oprah who was mugging for the cameras in Grant Park. Did anyone else see her? She’s really annoying. Like she’s the only one who voted for Obama. I bet she didn’t get a personal e-mail from him like I did.

i read dreams from my father. its really good for what it is but if the dude wasnt president i probably wouldnt recommend it.

pretty quick read tho.

i haven't read either. it feels weird to be a fan of the president... that's never been the case before so i don't have any reference points for how to express it or how to maintain the good feeling and hopefulness. maybe reading his books would help me?
