i posted a housing wanted ad and already have 7 responses, but it seems like they take a lot more work to get details/info out of.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 19:39 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah, i tried that when i was looking for a sublet last summer but it was annoying. people can't understand what you want so i got a bunch of responses from people who had rooms in complexes in the suburbs and also from crepey dudes with a spare bedroom in their condo. eventually i found a place w/ roommates and they were nice people but it made me really swear to never have a roommate again!!!!
― trouble child (harbl), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 19:58 (fifteen years ago) link
like the one that was there the most was really mom-like and always calling me to see where i was if i stayed out too late
― trouble child (harbl), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 19:59 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah part of my desire to move is a desire to not have to have roommates anymore! i mean, if i have to for a while, fine. but @(*#. this one lady has a reasonably priced 'mother-in-law' apartment but like, i don't know if i'm comfortable living in the same house as landlord. it's weird.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:15 (fifteen years ago) link
oh i think those are the best kind of landlords though! if they live in the house they have some stake in it other than collecting rent.
― trouble child (harbl), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link
i don't like living nextdoor to the landlords
― jergins, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:23 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah but i feel like i'd be living with my mom or something and be all nervous about things.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:23 (fifteen years ago) link
ehhhh i dunno. my landlord used to live on the next block until his washing machine exploded and he moved to his other house. i wouldn't mind if he lived downstairs, he is a cool dude. but i dunno. true she could be the kind that makes sure you don't bring boys home.
― trouble child (harbl), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:27 (fifteen years ago) link
i dunno i dunno
― trouble child (harbl), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:28 (fifteen years ago) link
i think the majority of mature adults would not bother you or treat you like their child and you should give it a try!
― trouble child (harbl), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:29 (fifteen years ago) link
she is a bit older, so i worry baout this no boys thing. someone actually wrote me and said 'no overnight guests' lol.
my old landlady used to live on the 1st floor (we were on 3) and she was INSANE. i used to have paranoid nightmares about her.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:30 (fifteen years ago) link
the landlord of my last apt. building also lived there. it's a mixed bag, she was on top of repairs but she was also crazy and kinda racist
― t. silaviver, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:30 (fifteen years ago) link
ok maybe you are right
the no overnight guests thing shouldn't be legal. i ran across that a bunch of times when i was looking argh
― trouble child (harbl), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:33 (fifteen years ago) link
our landlords mow are lawn and do the weeding, which is good since neither of us would ever do it, but they still live next door. good and bad, ya
― jergins, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:35 (fifteen years ago) link
also wld be a shared kitchen so i would probably see her more than i wanted to.
i had some awesome landlords once that blew our leaves and hired someone to plow our driveway. they were amazing. they even gave stocked the apartment with a george foreman grill and vacuum cleaner when i moved in!
― tehresa, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:37 (fifteen years ago) link
we had like 20 sq ft of lawn but my neighbor dug it up. he lets us do whatever we want all the time! i gave the bushes a haircut.
― trouble child (harbl), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 20:38 (fifteen years ago) link
oh shared kitchen would suck ok

things that are scary:jobshousingnot knowing people and my tendency to slip into hermit ways

not knowing people
EXCUSE ME
― jergins, Monday, 11 May 2009 02:24 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah hermiting, i do that even when i do know people!
― trouble child (harbl), Monday, 11 May 2009 02:28 (fifteen years ago) link
i dunno maybe it is time to turn over a new leaf and not hermit though rite. my problem is it is hard to find someone who hates as many things as i do
― trouble child (harbl), Monday, 11 May 2009 02:31 (fifteen years ago) link
that sounded hateful
actually last year when i was there i did see lots of things and had fun but i also hermited because i did not know people and being in a place not-permanently makes me feel weird. i never wanted to do anything and i was always tired and stuff. i hope i have not already established a hermiting pattern there.
― trouble child (harbl), Monday, 11 May 2009 02:39 (fifteen years ago) link
i don't really hate everything btw i just only like certain types of things
hah yeah i know lots of ppl here but i kinda hate a lot of em or am maybe just sick of them.i should turn a new leaf! i am already excited about walking up hills and hiking and enjoying a city that is actually pretty so maybe that will inspire me to be more social?
also jergins weren't you threatening to leave? (feel free to delete that if it's not public record type shit)

something that is interesting about moving, especially to a place where you haven't spent much time (when i moved here i had spent a total of 5 days here over 2 visits in 3 years), is weird spatial orientation stuff. like when you have no internal compass or sense of distance and you get lost or feel like everywhere you are walking is like being an explorer. like omg what could be around this corner?!?! when you stop getting that that's when stuff starts being boring imo.
i read half of a book about this once but i returned it to the library because it was so obvious
― trouble child (harbl), Monday, 11 May 2009 16:11 (fifteen years ago) link
good luck movers.
