PUJOLS

wcarroll (Snowed in): Pujols has had - a torn UCL worse than the one that forced Luis Gonzalez to have Tommy John; plantar fasciitis "on par with" what caused a significant gap in Mark McGwire's stat line; a strained oblique that caused him no more trouble than a mosquito bite despite having been Grade II, something that humans need six to eight weeks to recover from; and a chronic hamstring condition. Add in the normal bumps and bruises plus two position changes and yeah, I can say he's never been healthy. I think it's safe to say that we've never seen more than 90% of Pujols. What do you think, Nate?

Nate Silver: Well, his 90th percentile projection is .358/.464/.704, so I think that gives you some idea.

He probably knows more about the US than I ever will. And he'd be more of a dick about it, too.

David RER (Frank Fiore), Thursday, 15 February 2007 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

His wife tutored him.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 15 February 2007 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

He is also having more of teh sex than me, then.

David RER (Frank Fiore), Thursday, 15 February 2007 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

BUT HE'S MARRIED!

Donkey Kong New York (Lee), Thursday, 15 February 2007 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

Even that 90% projection seems low to me because I don't see anything that indicates that Pujols will be walked LESS this season than his last two (his BB/PA ratio has gone up every year.) I wouldn't be shocked if Pujols puts up something close to the first and third numbers along with an .500 OBP and really starts approaching Barry/Babe/Ted type #s if he played at the top of his potential.

Imagine if he shortened his swing!

David RER (Frank Fiore), Thursday, 15 February 2007 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

He could be Mike Schmidt!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 15 February 2007 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, don't be rude - he could be Greg Luzinski!

yanyway, even if he is a pilled-up ragehead whose many years in the u.s. still render him illiterate and insufficiently american, who here thinks he will have his best season this year the way all those guys are predicting?

Matt Cibula (Formerly, the Haikunym), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:11 (nineteen years ago)

Are you talking about Barry or Pujols now?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:35 (nineteen years ago)

Because no on the former and yes on the latter.
