i like them a lot. could i steam them? i wonder if i could find them at farmer's market. i have a new cookbook that might have some 'choke recipes in it

my favorite method of cooking is steaming btw
You can steam! Works best if you use smaller, younger ones and cut them in half, then lay them cut side down in the steamer.
My favorite thing is to make lots, eat one hot, fridge the rest to eat cold through the week with hollandaise or melted butter w/ lime or a yoghurt/mustard/dill sauce. Also works for asparagus.

i boiled why bc i don't have a steamer basket.
have you ever grilled them? can you roast them? i am very curious about artichokes.

how do you clean your artichokes? i just found a little worm in one!i've just been rinsing, but clearly that is not enough.
― te,he (tehresa), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 22:19 (fifteen years ago) link
I usually just rinse them - maybe they need to be soaked in water+vinegar instead?
― jaq, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 23:16 (fifteen years ago) link
hm, would that fuck with the flavor?
you know, i feel like the leaf with the worm was so far inside that choke that no amount of cleaning/rinsing would have found it. mostly i'm just concerned that because that artichoke was boiled with others, i've been eating weird worm matter that got into the water during cooking and was absorbed by the artichokes. also since i put a lot of spices in, i can't tell if i am eating dirt or spice sometimes.
i will do some research perhaps. it's an artichoke journey tbh.

Well, all that worm ever ate was artichoke probably. (what my dad always said when I found a worm in an apple)

(which supposedly justified eating it and not worrying about it, but never really seemed right to me)

I was reminded of artichoke magic last night. Eat a some of a plain boiled or steamed artichoke, then drink some water. It will taste sweet!
