Darvandra Barn-Hat

Hurting (A-Ron Hubbard), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 04:19 (seventeen years ago) link

LOL barnhat.

I love (the extended version of) that !!! song!!! the bassline. and guy goes crazy at the end. i once almost broke a friend's neck to that song during a dance contest, trying to flip him over my back.

a giant mechanical ant (a giant mechanical ant), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 04:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Sorry, don't have much use for that.

I also don't have much use for people saying stuff like "Hey Mr. Bush, why are you so stoopid?! How come you lie to us?!" in indie rock songs, which is another reason I have no use for !!!

Hurting (A-Ron Hubbard), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 04:47 (seventeen years ago) link

yes. that is not necessary. also punk bands giving props to chomsky.

a giant mechanical ant (a giant mechanical ant), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 04:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Sorry, don't have much use for that.

this has such a great "end of discussion/please..." thing about it. i don't dismiss people enough.

This thread is all about using the sandbox to get out our dismissive urges that we withhold on ILM

that's why i'm talking smack about ultimate spinach

Ok, fine. I fucking hate Daniel Johnston. Hate all his stupid fucking songs, hate his stupid fucking whiny voice, hate every inch of his stupid fat butt.

There.

I don't have much use for Chuck Klosterman or Dipset.

o goddammit

hoosteen posts hastily (hoosteen), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 05:45 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't have much use for Chuck Klosterman

I like the essay about John Cusack. That made me laugh. I evan read it to friends. Everything else in that book is pretty silly, and Detroit Rock City wasn't even written for me, so I won't even comment.

i don't much cotton to that Nellie McKay and her ilk

whoop de doodle (kenan), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 06:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't have much use for Destroyer and Wolf Parade getting together to make a really shitty Animal Collective record.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 06:30 (seventeen years ago) link

aw, i like that record!

hoosteen has carpal tunnel (hoosteen), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 06:44 (seventeen years ago) link

You are perfectly welcome to.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 06:51 (seventeen years ago) link

I mean, I'd love to say that it has its moments, even, but I don't think it does. It's totally unfocused.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 06:55 (seventeen years ago) link

all righty, disparagement is what this thread is for anyhow.

I don't have much use for Jamiroquai.

justin (hoosteen), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 07:23 (seventeen years ago) link

You also don't have to only disparage things you deeply hate - like I don't actually hate Django Reinhardt imitators, I just think they're kind of pointless.

Hurting (A-Ron Hubbard), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 13:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Daniel Johnston and Jandek (they're basically the same person)

Haha, but that's so wrong. Both are mired in their alternate universes/mental problems with primitive musical abilities. But Johnston = childlike naivete pop, Jandek = creepy bleak folk.

Motherfuck a Bright Eyes, Death Cab For Cutie, Smashing Pumpkins, Jane's Addiction, The Cult, and The Pixies, though.

Nu-Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 15:21 (seventeen years ago) link

American nu-punx that fake British accents.

People who extend the thumb when making devil horns so that they are effectively saying "I Love You" in sign language instead of praising the black beast.

This thread is all about using the sandbox to get out our dismissive urges that we withhold on ILM

Waht? Between ILM on a regular day and the "blaspheme here" thread I doubt there's an ounce of dissmissiveness gone unspent in 99% of regular posters! Better out than in....

Venom 18, the autistic spy (flezaffe), Thursday, 14 December 2006 01:32 (seventeen years ago) link

heh. I love jazz, but would never argue with someone who doesn't like it at all. Like a mellow Jesus freak who wants people to find their own path.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Thursday, 14 December 2006 04:05 (seventeen years ago) link

OTM

Hurting (A-Ron Hubbard), Thursday, 14 December 2006 04:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Actually no, that's not me though. I'd probably start by saying "Uh, what jazz have you actually heard that you don't like?" I mean I'd just cover all bases by saying they'd heard, say, a good Art Blakey record, Coltrane's "My Favorite Things," maybe some late 60s/early 70s Miles, Monk, etc. before leaving them alone.

Hurting (A-Ron Hubbard), Thursday, 14 December 2006 04:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah. But that's gently preaching the gospel, not arguing.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Thursday, 14 December 2006 04:14 (seventeen years ago) link

a good Art Blakey record

I might even start here, before Mile or Coltrane. Moanin' is amazing and very, very accessible.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Thursday, 14 December 2006 04:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I usually start there - for people who like rock at least, because if the assumption is that jazz is smooth music for a quiet night, they'll be like "Wait, this has awesomely loud drumming!"

Hurting (A-Ron Hubbard), Thursday, 14 December 2006 04:17 (seventeen years ago) link

For awesome drumming, I go straight to Elvin Jones.
