anyway I'm just starting this thread to say that if nothing else, the remastered "a day in the life" (w/no sgt pepper fade in but w/ "sugar plum fairy") is worth the purchase price, it sounds amazing. so does "i am the walrus."

akm (akmonday), Monday, 27 November 2006 07:40 (nineteen years ago)

downloading now

whoop de doodle (kenan), Monday, 27 November 2006 07:45 (nineteen years ago)

This is quite good.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Monday, 27 November 2006 07:55 (nineteen years ago)

I've heard 2 tracks now, and they were surprisingly normal. (Lastpart of Strawb, going into hand live)

M Grout (Mark Grout), Monday, 27 November 2006 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

nono listen to the whole thing

whoop de doodle (kenan), Monday, 27 November 2006 08:17 (nineteen years ago)

I suspect I may get this for crimbo, from one source or another.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Monday, 27 November 2006 09:16 (nineteen years ago)

The music is of course great (it is The Beatles after all), but the entire idea and release is completely pointless. They should rather have released "2", a followup to "1" containing several of their non #1-classics.

Geir Hongro (geirhong), Monday, 27 November 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

As predicted, in at number three behind all-round family entertainers Westlife and Oasis.

Predicted chart position next week: 22.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 27 November 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

Nah, that'll be in January.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Monday, 27 November 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

Of course the new album by easy listening adult contemporary favourites Take That is released today so everyone else might just as well pack up and go home.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 27 November 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

Geir, nothing would be more pointless than "2". At least these songs are reinterpreted in a slightly creative way.

akm (akmonday), Monday, 27 November 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

I am against the idea of "interpreting" a song.

Geir Hongro (geirhong), Monday, 27 November 2006 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

That is, one shouldn't fuck with the original Beatles works. They are classic the way they are. But they badly need HDCD remastering!

Geir Hongro (geirhong), Monday, 27 November 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

no-one uses HDCD anymore

SACD maybe

I'm not going to argue with your other points.

akm (akmonday), Monday, 27 November 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

I am against the idea of "interpreting" a song.

LOL.

Kali Pachanguero (RSLaRue), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 03:42 (nineteen years ago)

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,050,000 for the entirety of music history. (0.23 seconds)

step hen faps (Curt1s Stephens), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 03:58 (nineteen years ago)

That is, one shouldn't fuck with the original Beatles works.

I think George Martin has the right and requisite talent to do so.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 04:17 (nineteen years ago)

And hey, so does every busker, opera quartet, band of barking dogs, X-Factor show, and you.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

I am against the idea of "interpreting" a song.

"Twist And Shout" to thread.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

Geir does have a point though; the remastering work on things like "Come Together" and "A Day In The Life" is so good that you wish they'd just done that to the whole Beatles catalogue, because it could sorely do with it. The existing CD issues are so poor and overpriced that I tend just to stick with the original vinyl.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

Marcello, i fully expect them to do so, next time EMI need their coffers swelling i expect you'll get each album loving remastered on a slow painful drip feed.
after all, surely this Love (which does sound fantastic) is the beginning of the process as they must have revisited each master.

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

What's the betting that they start with the 40th Anniversary Remastered Reissue of Sgt Pepper next June?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

Is it true that before George Harrison died the three remaining Beatles were going to sample John's voice to create a cover of "Two Princes"?

Dom Passantino (DomPassantino), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

You don't want to believe everything Danny Baker says.

Although I believe the story about George and Eric deciding who was going to get Patti by means of a guitar cutting contest may have some faint basis in fact.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Neil Aspinall already announced that the albums are being remastered and will also be available for download, and that Love was the first step in this process, back when Love was first announced a few months ago. I don't know when they're planning to get around to it, but they did at least finally say it out loud.

Of course they also said Let it Be would be out on DVD two years ago.

akm (akmonday), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

All right, can't wait to download 128k rips of those remasters from iTunes.

MarkRichardson (Mark R), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 21:53 (nineteen years ago)

I'm with Geir on this one. The track I heard was Lady Madonna, and I could have sworn I heard the guitar part from Hey Bulldog inserted into the song. I found this horrifying, as Hey Bulldog is one of my fave Beatles songs and Lady Madonna uh...isn't. Just cannot figure out why anyone would think tampering with Beatles songs like that is a good idea. Leave it alone, for crying out loud!

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 22:12 (nineteen years ago)

"no-one uses HDCD anymore"

That Neil Young fillmore album is HDCD. I think the continued use of the format is mainly a Warner Music Group thing.

C. Grisso/McCain (sandglocks), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

SACD required specialized players (I think some of them also work with DVD players though), so HDCD is still valid for most listeners.

Geir Hongro (geirhong), Thursday, 30 November 2006 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

Most SACDs are dual layer discs with a normal redbook layer too.

Nick Southall (sickmouthy), Thursday, 30 November 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

My car CD player jumps all over the place even if you drive over a shadow.

However, the Nick Drake "Treasury" dualformat CD plays perfectly.

Odd, that.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Thursday, 30 November 2006 11:54 (nineteen years ago)

What's the betting that they start with the 40th Anniversary Remastered Reissue of Sgt Pepper next June?

Sounds not at all unlikely. I was a bit surprised they didn't do a 30th Anniversary one in 1997, considering "Anthology" and Britpop had given them a lot of publicity.

Geir Hongro (geirhong), Thursday, 30 November 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

Well, now Macca's gotta pay for a divorce, so it could happen. Besides, IIRC the disc that's out now was the 20th Anniversary edition.

C. Grisso/McCain (sandglocks), Thursday, 30 November 2006 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

That is true. The release of the CD edition was 1. June 1987, exactly 20 years after the original album release.

However, 20 years is a long time and even though the remastering was very impressive state of the art work back in 1987, it still doesn't hold up today.

Geir Hongro (geirhong), Friday, 1 December 2006 03:00 (nineteen years ago)

1987 was 19 years ago. Do-WEE!
