isn't it illegal to sell hair?
(from the britney story on the page)

mizzell (mizzell), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 21:06 (seventeen years ago) link

I like how the headline makes it sound like Tori plans to buy Britney's hair.

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 21:17 (seventeen years ago) link

That would be the only interesting thing she's done in the past ten years.

"Buckethead should team up with Bob Pollard. They could put out eight hundred albums a week."

Since when was Tori a "woodland nymph" ? I though such stupid titles belonged exclusively to Joanna Newsom, who cannot stand that kind of labelling herself.

Piano Fire (Piano Fire), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 00:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I think the title's brilliant. It's refreshing to see a sense of humor in her work.

juan a (el juan), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 01:53 (seventeen years ago) link

god, Tori is like kryptonite to me. And her fans take on this cover absolutely bizarro... How is this not rape chic?

And since when did menstruating BREAK YOUR SHOES?

da mystery of sandboxin' (fandango), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't think it has anything to do with rape. Like you said, she's menstruating.

The photo's great, reminds me of Jeff Wall, I just hope the music is good.

No. I'm asking WHAT is the visual significance of the broken shoes?

Because to those not completely steeped in Tori lore it looks incredibly crass, almost Benetton.

(okay I just had a look at a hi-rez here and it IS actually a shoe coming apart, not a dark patch of blood... but not a broken shoe? just falling apart? okay maybe it's just a very sloppy image after all. Hmmm.)

da mystery of sandboxin' (fandango), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 02:49 (seventeen years ago) link

WHY, JUGGALOS!?

Marmot (marmotwolof), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 03:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Seems to me like Tori Amos is doing something ubercamp and tongue-in-cheek. As for the significance of it all, who knows, it's open to interpretation. For once the press release for one of her albums isn't jam packed with the over-explanation of a concept or off-kilter quotes.

Hopefully, she'll just let the music speak for itself. She's one of those musicians where the music gets too wrapped up with her persona, which I suppose is the draw for some, but also turns off a lot of people way before they actually even listen to the albums. She seems to be molding herself into some kind of musician version of Cindy Sherman now, playing with feminine archetypes, which I have to say is a lot more interesting than whatever the other female singer/songwriters that are/were her contemporaries in the 90's are doing now (with the exception of Bjork & Pj Harvey, that is). If this equals an actual good record, well that remains to be seen, but I will say, I'm now much more interested than I was before.

i agree - it's true, about her persona creeping into her music too much. the music itself, or a lot of it at least, is wonderful.

i hope it rocks. i really, really hope this image speaks of something

NOT like the beekeeper. or scarlet's walk.
