There seems to be scant information out there on this Italian band. I've heard a couple tracks and they're alright, but any ideas what their best albums are?

the adrian sherwood produced 'freiheit fur die sklaven' (with hr geiger sleeve) and the rico conning produced 'gisela' (with totally terrifying sleeve) are both super ace.

'omne animal triste post coitum' and 'treue hunde' are actually pretty good too but then i adored pankow with a passion and lapped it all up.

Svobody is probably the best place to start, it has some of their better songs like "Me and My Ding Dong" and "Remember Me" as well as some solid remixes. Gisela and Treue Hunde are solid throughout, but steer clear of their s/t album.

There's a Pankow box set called "The Art of Gentle Revolution" which seems to come with notes, photos, and even a documentary, but alas, nobody got it for me on Christmas so I can't relay its contents. Most of the information on the net is murky, case in point, their description on Last.fm: http://www.last.fm/music/pankow/+wiki

I'll have to check out those first two LPs then, thanks!

I was just about to mention that boxset...it looks as though it compiles most of their stuff up to 1992.

And the artwork is bizarre!

anyone else waiting for Grace Jones and Pankow to cover Warm Leatherette together?! i'm just saying ... i think it'd be funny.

Goodness I haven't thought of Pankow in a very, very long time. I used to have "Freedom For The Slaves" (Wax Trax label) and really dug it despite most bands of their ilk not particularly appealing to me. The song "Texas & Paraguay" used to really make me happy, god I'd love to hear that again. The sleeve for "Gisela" looks very familiar but for some reason I don't think I bought that one.
