what's up with the POP GROUP's "Y" on Rhino Records?

I haven't seen a tracklisting yet, but most retailers are taking preorders for the Pop Group's "Y" on "remastered and expanded" CD via Rhino Records UK, who've recently unleashed a nice collection by the Electric Prunes with otherwise unavailable stuff on it.

Rhino is a division of Warner Music Groups, who's owned most of the released Pop Group material for years (there's still a few unreleased tracks and I don't think they control half of We Are Time). Warner UK's been threatening another CD release of Y for a few years, this is the first I've heard of it.

Does that include "She is Beyond Good & Evil"?

One of the burning questions on my mind is whether or not all the distortion on there is on the master tape. I was freaked out to find out there was a 12" version only to discover the sound on it is just as bad as the 7".

It's on Radarscope, like Y, though I vaguely remember Y has a WB logo on it. That could be SO wrong though.

It's the record I own the most copies of, 4, even though I gave a 5th away.

there's a connection there...Radarscope released a single of the Electric Prunes I Had To Much to Dream...in a totally punk rock sleeve circa 79 or so. Maybe where in the midst of the Radarscope reissue series...sign me up for the Clive Langer I Want the Whole World EP.

And the Red Crayola's "Soldier Talk" plus "Wives In Orbit" single.

Another connection, the Bristol label Heartbeat (UK, not the US reggae one) released a live Electirc Prunes CD, and loads of things from the postpunk era with connections to the Pop Group.

I met Mark Stewart at a rave last year. He seemed nice but also really surprised that I didn't recognise him

He was one of the faces you were asked to name in a pub quiz I just did - I think I was probably the only person in the room who knew who he was

".... I don't think [Time Warner Inc.] control half of We Are Time"

Oh the cruelly ironic twists of fate!

That's the Uncut rave review gone for a Burton then.

".... I don't think [Time Warner Inc.] control half of We Are Time"

the comp We Are All Prostitutes came out on Wea Japan but with tracks from We are Time and For How Much Longer....We Are Time was originally on Rough Trade. I was under the impression that Warner doesn't control the We Are Time tracks that weren't on the We Are All Prostitutes CD.

For How Much Longer:

Forces of Oppression
Feed the Hungry
One Out of Many
Blind Faith
How Much Longer
Justice
There Are No Spectators
Communicate
Rob a Bank

We Are Time:

Trap
Thief of Fire
Genius or Lunatic
Colour Blind
Spanish Inquistion
Kiss the Book
Amnesty Report
Springer
Sense of Purpose
We Are Time

We Are All Prostitutes:

We Are All Prostitutes
Blind Faith
Justice
Amnesty Report
Feed the Hungry
Where There's a Will
Forces of Oppression
Spanish Inquisition
No Spectators
Amnesty Report II

Curiously 'though, the song "We Are Time" is on the Rhino Postpunk Chronicles: Scared to Dance comp.
