i was doing okay when i listened to it this morning and then about two minutes in i just completely lost my shit.

apparently it was used on an episode of west wing, too?

Bimble, that link is priceless*. Sometimes I think you're me.

(*This song is priceless.)

thank you, bimble.

thank you too, joseph, for starting this thread; i sometimes forget about this song, its sempiternal wonder, and it's good to be reminded.

about 10 years ago i presented a 4am radio show that nobody in their right mind would have listened to. (seriously: i imagine it had precisely 0 listeners.) i played this one night after "you've lost that loving feeling" by the human league and got so choked up i couldn't do the link after it.

happy days. i think.

beautiful.

That entire DVD is the dog's bollox. (Rakim)

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 07:28 (seventeen years ago) link

(wow, this reviewer dude agrees about Rakim and Sanvean!)

Never heard of that motherfucker.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 07:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I've grown sick of Sanvean after hearing it in countless perfume ads, but Rakim is the real deal.

there are only live versions of this by DCD, correct? how is the lisa gerrard mirror pool version?

akm (akmonday), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

beautiful, too. i prefer it, i think. (that'd be the one i mention above, actually, come to think of it.)

i'm sure i had a DCD studio version, but my DCD albums are all on copied tape and i've no idea where ... i really must replace them.

grimly fiendish (simon), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 21:28 (seventeen years ago) link

i have what sounds like a studio version on the best-of collection "wake" but for all i know it's live and/or the same version from mirror pool

max (maxreax), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 21:56 (seventeen years ago) link

How about a studio version of Rakim? And if no such exists, why the hell did they not record those 'Towards the Within' tunes?

baaderonixx (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 22:40 (seventeen years ago) link

i have, on "wake," what sounds like a live version of rakim... should i Y*I?

max (maxreax), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 03:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Y*s ple*se

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 05:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Rakim

Sanvean

pls note: i don't know that these are studio versions, necessarily, so dont get yr hopes up!

max (maxreax), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 06:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Thanks! I'm pretty certain those are the live versions from the Toward The Within live CD/DVD, faded out just before the applause starts.

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 08:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, that's also what I think. The vocals are just too similar.

baaderonixx (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 10:06 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, ok--i just have the best-of w/ no liner notes (promo copy) so i couldn't tell

max (maxreax), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 18:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Those versions are perfect anyway, I'm glad there's no other version to get used to.
