Song request: The Sundays, "Life Goes On"

I thought for years I had The Sundays' studio output in my possession, so I was surprised to find out tonight that I'm missing one track. Somehow it escaped my attention 10 years ago when it showed up as a b-side on Pt. 2 of the "Cry" singles set.

Anyone got it? Please?

oh! do you have a list of other sundays b-sides?

for that matter, any news of new material...?

There were six songs that weren't included on the proper studio albums:

Don't Tell Your Mother - 1990
Noise - 1992
Nothing Sweet - 1997
Through the Dark - 1997
Gone - 1997
Life Goes On - 1997

I'm pretty sure Harriet and David have officially retired now, which is a real shame (for us, not necessarily for them).

Actually, since I posted this morning, I finally found "Life Goes On" on teh slsks. It's pleasant enough, but it's clear to see why it was relegated to b-side status. Glad I didn't pay an assload of cash for the cd single online.

i've heard "gone" before - it's also lovely.

i trust these are reasonably available on slsk. a shame there isn't more.

"Don't Tell Your Mother" is possibly the best thing they ever did! What a tune.

Don't Tell Your Mother - 1989, surely? Can't Be Sure single?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Sunday, 18 February 2007 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

'89? Okay. I was using US release dates just because that's where I am. Is it true that "So Hard" isn't on the UK version of Static & Silence? If so, that's a shame. It's one of the best songs from that period.

Johnny Fever (johnnyfever), Sunday, 18 February 2007 18:26 (nineteen years ago)

Um, "So Much" rather.

Johnny Fever (johnnyfever), Sunday, 18 February 2007 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

I think there was something like a year between the Can't Be Sure single and the debut album (mid-Jan '90?) - it seemed like longer at the time, as if they'd put this one perfect record out and then vanished. I might be wrong.

I saw David, Harriet and their adorable children at a bus stop in Camden a few years ago, all laden down with shopping (well, not the kids). If my own subsequent experience of having children is anything to go by, I'm not surprised they packed it in. Unless the royalties from Here's Where The Story Ends keep them in live-in nannies, how would they find the time?

Oh my god I haven't heard this. But then, I haven't heard the 1997 stuff at all.

Don't Tell Your Mother was CLASSIQUE!!! I know I've got that somewhere if only on cassette. I'll have to dig it out. Sure I could download, but it's not half as fun as digging through a random giant box of cassettes and finding out whatever songs I happened to recorded it between.

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Sunday, 18 February 2007 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

Oh my god! I found the cassette I made over ten years ago and I put the song between Kate Bush & Killing Joke!!! That makes me so chuffed! I have actually been thinking a lot about Killing Joke lately. I was out Friday with a friend and we were talking about Killing Joke at length and I was fascinated with the bits of trivia he shared with me. And everyone knows that Kate Bush is god, so no problems there.

Okay this is a Sundays thread, I realize. I will put the song on, I am going to put the tape in my cassette deck right now. But DON'T TELL YOUR MOTHER!!!

psst:

Cortney Tidwell is the new Harriet Wheeler.

Pass it on.

Jesus fucking christ people - "Don't Tell Your Mother" - they don't make British music like that anymore. And Johnny Marr joining Modest Mouse just isn't going to help one bit, I'm afraid.
