I like this stuff...I'd like some e-dancer style basslines to come back, that'd be cool.

The Hyperdelic Housers were to spawn the first underground label of Finland, Sähkö Recordings, whose central place was to be in Helsinki. During 1993 Sähkö ('Electricity') already published five 12":s. Early 1994 saw the first Sähkö CD, Metri by Mika Vainio, recorded as Ø (pronounced "ohm"). Before this, Mika had already published in 1991 the first Finnish techno album Mindprobe by Corporate 09 which then consisted of Vainio and Pertti Grönholm.
Anything else I can do for you, son?

^^ that means 8 ohms resistance through a wire with a diameter of 50 mm, different resistance measured with a thicker or thinner wire, right?
except mika vainio thought Ø was the same as ohm because he saw "ohm - Ø" all the time in his electronics manuals??

A lot of mixes I hear are still very spectrum-covering - there's some spacey synth tunes, some allusions to bumping house, some deep disco, some prickly Anja Schneider/Sleeperthief stuff, some druggy house Fuckpony/Tuning Spork stuff, some insane tribal Guido Schneider style stuff... amidst all of this some spacey synth stuff sounds great and not particularly all-dominating/monomaniacal.
This is OTM, especially re the whole "deep house/minimal" thing but I have been thinking about this the last few days and I genuinely think this psychedelic house/techno could be quite a big deal and a good antithesis (ie not that dissimilar) to minimal...which probably needs to happen.

In terms of the regular discussion: India in Me just isn't that good, though it doesn't sound like what v says it does. I've said it before in other threads-- the love for this track baffles me over and over again. And I like some other Cobblestone Jazz.

"berghain" is great! i think i like it so much because of the way it rubs against everything else coming out right now.
i think what's also interesting is when this stuff strays from 4/4 territory and gets steppy like "space break" or the last few monolake releases (polygon_cities and the "plumbicon" single). the live in osaka "plumbicon" version fits pretty well with the general vibe of this thread.
i'm surprised no one has mentioned sleeparchive yet. or soundstream. "love jam" is a jam.

I think you are missing my point. Read this:
http://www.amazon.com/Turn-Beat-Around-Secret-History/dp/0571211941
When you get to the Eurodisco section and reference it with the earlier section regarding disco's roots in R&B you will understand what I am getting it. It is appropriate.
Yr otm re cobbbelstone jazz and brikha's new kompakt record.

boomkat's review of new Aril Brikha,Hardcore Transmat geeks of course might be up in arms about this twelve, but the partial salvation comes on the neatly turned out shapethrowing panorama bar tribute "Berghain". Opt for this side if in a tight corner, simply grin and bear the gloss and sheen of its all gone pete tong directed ibizan headache that is "Winter". Massive of course, but what a pity - one is left mulling what might have been, be certain Groove La Chord this is not.
:O :D
they're kind of right, it is an incredibly commercial sounding tune, but it (Winter) is also a total earworm. I like it a lot.

Also he is really down on I Feel Love? In the book he calls it the perfect soul record, as powerful and complex as anything by Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, and Al Green! His point is that it encapsulats the then-fascination with detachement/submission/anonymous sex/unreality/non-human so well, and does it all with this eerie etheral sexuality that was very alien at the time. I don't know what you are looking for him to say?
― Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 19 February 2007 16:02 (nineteen years ago)
I think the thing with Peter Shapiro's book is that he describes things in what for others would be pejorative terms, but which in his own aesthetic are actually positive. This struck me most in the stuff on Hi-NRG. It makes it a weird read. I've posted this before, but here's him on the radio giving us the roots of Eurodisco. It's great. http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/12195
Anyway, carry on ...

He wasn't and he made a distinction between the stuff that was good, Moroder and Cerrone for example, vs schlock like Frank Farian produced stuff like Boney M. Frank Farian also had hits in the late 80's with this band:

also, i just re-read the eurodisco chapters, and while he isn't totally biased against eurodisco, it's pretty hard to say that he is really into 'I Feel Love' (while saying it's a great soul record, he also calls it "sexless" and "campy," which are...well, negative). additionally, he sums the section up by saying that much eurodisco "rings rather hollow." which shows some *gasp* bias.
that said, after flipping through again, shapiro does frame things in rather pejorative terms, so my previous reading was a bit distorted.
