both great. 'children' better.

lexpretend (lexpretend), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

Sash was actually fun; Robert Miles = http://www.buffybaird.com/images/8-8-04/blondie-yawn-web.jpg

Frogm@n henry (Frogm@n henry), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

The little piano line in Children is the best thing on either record, but the breathy girl on encore un fois is plastisexy and the bubbling beats sash puts together are more complex and interesting without being wanky so. And it's makes me want to dance more.

So encore un fois gets my vote.

Johnney B's got a system (stigoftdumpilx), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

i liked both at the time, maybe 'children' a bit more - but would agree with johnney b now. the only track by either i liked tho.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

justin tope predicts both will claim the #1 spot via downloadz wevolution by the end of the year

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

"Children" belongs to an era when the fucking X-Files theme went top 5. "Encore Un Fois" is for the people, for the ages, man.

Dom Passantino (DomPassantino), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

ah, finally.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

'encore une fois' blatantly. 'children' is barely dance music. it's the fucking lighthouse family rly.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

YES.

Frogm@n henry (Frogm@n henry), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

children is shit.

encore une fois is actually really good...I heard it on the radio last month, it's great!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

One and one still is one, to be taken into consideration.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

Plus when I try and imagine "Children" into my head all I can think of are various Coldplay intros.

Dom Passantino (DomPassantino), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, Robert Miles is like incidental music for the alzheimers channel or something.

Sick Mouthy (sickmouthy), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

'Children' seemed to popularise the trance-pop trend of the low synth bassline sound placed just after and between each of the four bassdrums per bar (see also BBE's 'Seven Days And One Week'). Altho I'm sure quite a few if not many european trance tracks had been doing this for a while before I can't think of any that charted.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:17 (nineteen years ago)

"trend of the low synth bassline sound placed just after and between each of the four bassdrums per bar"

you were one trendy teenage trance fan, i can tell.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

did anyone else, who was at school round this time, have their french lessons interupted by shouts of "encore une fois!" every few minutes? this happened like every lesson for about six months at my school.

acrobat (acrobat), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

'Encore Un Fois' possibly popularised 'Hardbag' more as a subgenre, being such a big hit although 'Insomnia' and a few other things had already been minor hits by that point. The enormous pizzicato-strings+organ hook was a big UK & Euro house trend of the mid 90s, largely thanks to Rollo i reckon.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

'insomnia' was probably the biggest record of that winter, man.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

How old are you Paul? I think I'm 2 or three years older, and missed the shouting-encore-une-fois-in-class thing.

Sick Mouthy (sickmouthy), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:30 (nineteen years ago)

got to number three in october '96, but with 'born slippy' was probably the most ubiquitous rereleased dance record of the year.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

autumn/winter '96 yeah, but it only got in the 20s a year beforehand. massive in clubs obviously.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

xpost i be 23. i also seem to remember kids shouting "Ecuador!" a lot but this was less lesson specific.

acrobat (acrobat), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

glad doglatin isn't here to try his '96 sucked' crap again lol

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

Four years difference. I'd have been 17 when it came out - past French lessons.

Sick Mouthy (sickmouthy), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

Encore une fois definitely. Though I still prefer Ecuador.

On a related note: whither Dario G?

jim (jim), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

He's on "The World's Greatest Vaguely-Sporty Celebratory Compilation Part 5"

Johnney B's got a system (stigoftdumpilx), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

Dario G = not a he. http://www.discogs.com/artist/Dario+G

jim (jim), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

it appears to be three or two hes.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

Dario G is the name of a dance music trio from Cheshire, England. The act was named after the manager of Crewe Alexandra, Dario Gradi. Its founder members are Paul Spencer, Scott Rosser and Stephen Spencer (the Spencers are not related). Paul Spencer is the only remaining member of the trio.

acrobat (acrobat), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, just checked dario g's myspace(!) and it seems to be a he now. I seem to remember there being a group back in the day.

Ah, xpost.

jim (jim), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

didn't he do that terrible 'Ring Of Fire' thing last year?

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

Paul Spencer is the only remaining member of the trio.

the others died in a car crash with dave grohl.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

we shouted "encore une fois" in french too!

lexpretend (lexpretend), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

we're well overdue a big UK hit with a french title, unless i've forgotten something recent.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

'deja vu'

lexpretend (lexpretend), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

'Grace Kele'

M Grout (Mark Grout), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

"children" was soporific jism. "encore une fois" ruled mightily. i have the cassette single somewhere.

grimly fiendish (simon), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

I never did French but there was a bizarre trend of singing 'boccadillo de jamon' to the tune of Inner Circle's Sweat. Apparently that song was about s.e.x.

I just realised I liked Encore Une Fois. It was loads better than Protect Your Mind (For The Love of a Princess).

Mippy (Mippy), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:46 (nineteen years ago)

this thread rests on faulty premises. Ecuador! is the best song ever as of today. whatever happened to pop-trance? what was the last big pop-trance hit?

acrobat (acrobat), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

i never thought of it as trance at all.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

maybe it was though. 'children' kind of was.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

oh.

bat latin (acrobat), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

Last big trance record: "As The Rush Comes" by Motorcycle?

Dom Passantino (DomPassantino), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

'Encore Une Fois' was Hardbag.

resumo impetus (blueski), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

sorry i just like saying Hardbag

resumo impetus (blueski), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

TS: 'Professional Widow' vs 'Blue Skies' (one for everyone's favourite double-act)

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

what was the last big pop-trance hit?

it's been replaced by things like Cascada's 'Truly Madly Deeply' i guess. i don't know what to call stuff like that or Ultrabeat's 'Pretty Green Eyes' now - not Scouse House. it's all pretty bad.

resumo impetus (blueski), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

does it crossover with the post Put Your Hands Up stuff that is being advertized all the time. maybe it's just i'm watching more tv but there seems to loads more dance compilations being heavily pushed at the moment.

acrobat (acrobat), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

"Ecuador" is better than either.
