Tuomas, you out there?

Giant Robot? Stupido Records? Can I consider his new 3 hour album a 2007 release?

The album is called "New Album." It's like a haunting Euro-intellectual skeletalectronic analogue of LCD Soundsystem; three (digital) albums on one disc -- one regular studio album, one more ambient, the third (totalling 1.5 hrs) recorded live at a dinner party in 2002. I've seen both 2006 and 2007 for release dates; if the latter, it's my favorite album of 2007 so far.

oh yeah and he covers a sinead o'connor song on it and also incorporates "careless whisper" at the end of a nine-minute industrial dronethump song

I don't know about his solo album, but Giant Robot is kinda anemic downtempo/hip hop type of act. The album came out here a couple of months ago, and it didn't get too many good reviews. Maybe I ought to give it a try even though I hate his parent band.

The dude also has an degree on architecture and acts as a sort of a all-purpose commentator on urban matters in different media. He seems like a smart guy.

Tuomas, I knew you would come through for me!

only of you, babe, only of you

Matt Cibula (Formerly, the Haikunym), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 18:24 (seventeen years ago) link

no seriously that's what it is like! on further listens it might not be so hot but i was not kidding about what it is

Matt Cibula (Formerly, the Haikunym), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 18:40 (seventeen years ago) link

the deal-broker for me was 'live at a dinner party'...

it's probably not that bad really, just that it sounds just a tad ludicrous at first, not unlike many of my own favourites! :-)

Comrades, meet Tildo Durd (Scourage), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

oh i'm certain it's ludicrous; i haven't listened to that last track yet because i am frightened of it

Matt Cibula (Formerly, the Haikunym), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Can't be THAT terrifying! Ninety minutes of "Pass the salt" in Finnish with a bit of ambient dibbly-doob in the background isn't gonna give the kids nightmares, is it?

...IS IT???

Comrades, meet Tildo Durd (Scourage), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 19:13 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm 18 minutes in right now and I have heard neither the clink of silverware nor the supping of soup.

Satie would protest.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 19:28 (seventeen years ago) link

the first 30 minutes probably constitute the playing of grace

Comrades, meet Tildo Durd (Scourage), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 19:29 (seventeen years ago) link

okay, finished this. it was only 1 1/2 hours but it seemed like longer...and yet shorter too.
