goes to Paul Du Noyer for something in Q magazine, to the effect of:

"The Feeling: If modern pop music had had as much heart in 1976, Punk would not have needed to happen"

Now, I hate The Feeling as much as the next person, but not even Geir would lay this one at their feet! Oh maybe he would, but hey!

You didn't read much music writing in 2006, huh?

Oh enough.

I choose because: It's short, it's very wrong, that's it.

Jamie Hodgson reviewing "The Black Parade" in OMM:

Those that witnessed the piss-filled bottles raining down on them at this year's Reading Festival will understand how metallers feel about My Chemical Romance. Album three sees New Jersey's pale-faced suburbanites mould their poppy emo into a bizarre range of guises. From the cock-rock of 'Cancer' to the stadium schmaltz of 'The End', it reeks of a band with ideas above their station. Worse, it employs a pseudo-theatrical feel, as if they're Meat Loaf's spoilt nephews. The marching band outro on 'Welcome to the Black Parade' is the final nail in the coffin.

There was plenty of heart in 1976 pop music:

Village Voice on Ciara

NME on Jet's new album: "If you get a kick out of glorious, ragged old rock'n'roll, then you'll consider it essential."

Taylor Makes the Best Album Relased by Anyone in Years, December 23, 2006
Reviewer: Lon S. Roberts (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews

The heck with the naysayers who say this album isn't this or that. The fact is this album is all that! It's a pure album made in the vein of the albums of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. This album has a variety of songs and styles in the vein of Elvis Presley. Elvis was at any given time the King of Rock, the King of Ballads, the King of Love, the King of Country, and the King of R&B, as well as the King of Christmas and the King of Gospel. This album has great replay value and the songs will no doubt tranfer well to the live stage.

Elvis' Sun songs are among this best in part to their rawness. The same can be said of pre-Idol Taylor. But Elvis moved on to RCA and made more produced records and they are classics. Taylor's move to a real record label is the same. Taylor is in the big time now. Under the Radar was great for what it was but would be considered amateurish if released by a big name label. The same is true of Elvis' Sun singles.

In short, this is a funky album and a solid first release. And Taylor will make the songs the best live numbers in years.

A great artist makes music for himself and for the feel - commerical success be d-mned. Taylor has done just that. Rock on, Taylor. We love you! Taylor sings that he's "Gonna Move," and with this album so are the rest of us.
