i got a fat $50 to spend from awesome nerdy uncle. i bought the new clipse album (which is makin me want to BLOW BLOW BLOW), and a few tracks from the jeezy album. but what now? i only have a few requirements:
-- it cannot be something techno/house/etc that i could/would buy on vinyl anyway
-- it cannot be a classic album that i could find for less than $10 used.

I can't get my mind off the E-40 album, but I'm guessing you have that already.

i am thinking of buying lots of phil collins just for the hell of it.

the table is the table (trees), Thursday, 28 December 2006 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

wait, no.

the table is the table (trees), Thursday, 28 December 2006 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

i also bought two julien jabre tracks i'd never seen on slsk. but i still have like $38 and some change left. maybe i should get the e-40 album? hmmm.

the table is the table (trees), Thursday, 28 December 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

we should conspire soon leo. maybe we are both missing out on the same thing. (tho i'd say you should buy some prince tracks, if you don;t have any).

the table is the table (trees), Thursday, 28 December 2006 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

Haha I had the exact same thought process. After torturous hours (where I couldn't find any of the slept on stuff I was looking for) I settled on Coltrane w/Ellington, Bud Powell in Paris and Jim Hall/Ron Carter Alone Together.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver (hoosteen), Friday, 29 December 2006 00:17 (nineteen years ago)

lfam already did this.

so did I.

i would say get the brightblack morning light record if its on there.

grady (grady), Friday, 29 December 2006 00:32 (nineteen years ago)

i just bought the original of 'yamore' by salif keita. should i get Soro?

the table is the table (trees), Friday, 29 December 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not that into brightblack. a bit of a lot of hype.

the table is the table (trees), Friday, 29 December 2006 00:34 (nineteen years ago)

plz to forgive for not searching google cache of old ilm before starting new thread.

fixed?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver (hoosteen), Friday, 29 December 2006 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

Your choices sound good, except I'm not too fond of that Hall/Carter duo. It seems kind of inexplicably boring relative to how awesome it should be.

As for the original poster - I dunno, what kind of music do you like? Isn't this kind of the same thing as "I'm going to a record store, what should I buy?" iTunes has quite a lot of stuff.

Not For Use as Infant Nog (A-Ron Hubbard), Friday, 29 December 2006 00:54 (nineteen years ago)

are any of the DJ-Kicks on i-tunes?

grady (grady), Friday, 29 December 2006 01:05 (nineteen years ago)

I also really, really love that Mingus UCLA thing that came out this year. I know it's on iTunes.

A Radio Picture (Factory Sample Not For Sale), Friday, 29 December 2006 01:45 (nineteen years ago)

there's these Acute Records titles....

dan selzer (dan selzer), Friday, 29 December 2006 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

LCD Soundsystem - 45:33!

mikebee (bizzle), Friday, 29 December 2006 02:12 (nineteen years ago)

hey a-ron, i guess the question was more: hey, you people who know the sort of shit i like, tell me what to buy because i could 'waste' the next two days doing this, and it is in no way as pleasurable as going to a record store. though i am shopping itunes right now, and am only wearing underwear, so i guess that is to my advantage.

the table is the table (trees), Friday, 29 December 2006 04:20 (nineteen years ago)

i am buying salif keita's first record.

the table is the table (trees), Friday, 29 December 2006 04:21 (nineteen years ago)

also grady, they do have Tiga's DJ Kicks, and some other selected stuff from others, but not much

the table is the table (trees), Friday, 29 December 2006 04:23 (nineteen years ago)

Ice Cube - "Check Yo Self ('The Message' remix)"

$23.93 to go.

milo (milo), Friday, 29 December 2006 05:35 (nineteen years ago)

Hah, I received one of those for x-mas too. I tried to think really hard about what music to look for, but in the end, I ended up buying a bunch of episodes of My Super Sweet 16 and called it a day.

miki (Super), Friday, 29 December 2006 06:47 (nineteen years ago)

Joe Farrell - Moon Germs can be had in its entirety for $3.96.

Goodtime Slim, Uncle Doobie, and the Great Frisco Freakout (bernard snowy), Friday, 29 December 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

miki, i would do something similar, but i really don't like television that much. except for Lost, which i am totally addicted to for some reason.

the table is the table (trees), Friday, 29 December 2006 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

also, i bought 'knowing me, knowing you'. i sort of feel like a putz for doing so, but i really needed to hear it.

the table is the table (trees), Friday, 29 December 2006 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

neither do I, but music from the iTunes store sounds like such shit I don't see the point.

miki (Super), Friday, 29 December 2006 20:25 (nineteen years ago)

this is true. but what else would get me to buy the clipse album, which has been making me bounce up and down the past two days?

the table is the table (trees), Friday, 29 December 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

cocaine.

grady (grady), Friday, 29 December 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

dead hookers

Comrades, meet Tildo Durd (Scourage), Friday, 29 December 2006 23:50 (nineteen years ago)

well, i know that. but i am waiting on the snowman until tomorrow. and i'm not too into hookers, alive or dead, unless they are black, six feet tall, naked, and walking down broad street wearing gold sneakers and sporting an afro (a hooker my dad actually saw in 78).

the table is the table (trees), Saturday, 30 December 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

The iTunes store sucks ass. You pay CD or near-CD price for over-DRMed mp3s that you can only use on five machines ever, and even that is dodgy. I only ever use it when I need a quick fix of a certain single song, and iTunes is starting to cockblock that by making more songs "album only"

Not For Use as Infant Nog (A-Ron Hubbard), Saturday, 30 December 2006 18:29 (nineteen years ago)

same here. or when someone gives me a giftcard.

grady (grady), Saturday, 30 December 2006 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

I couldn't get the "adult" versions of a number of things, only the censored ones.

Detroit Street (klynn), Saturday, 30 December 2006 23:35 (nineteen years ago)

not like i would actually buy anything from the store independent of gift certs, either.

the table is the table (trees), Saturday, 30 December 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

buy my single

hoolly hap

friday on the porch (lfam), Sunday, 31 December 2006 00:53 (nineteen years ago)

or when someone gives me a giftcard.

Which, oddly enough, is my situation. It's a $15 card, so someone suggest the 15 most randomly strange songs in the store.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 31 December 2006 03:57 (nineteen years ago)

iTunes's "gift music" function appears to be partly responsible for the increasing usage of "gift" as a verb.

Not For Use as Infant Nog (A-Ron Hubbard), Sunday, 31 December 2006 04:35 (nineteen years ago)

JJ Fad, "Supersonic" - 22.86 to go.

milo (milo), Sunday, 31 December 2006 04:38 (nineteen years ago)

buy my single

-- this is cutty (holle...), December 31st, 2006 12:21 AM. (mcutt) (link)

or my friend's single. But don't buy it on iTunes; buy on Bleep.

caek (caek), Sunday, 31 December 2006 05:30 (nineteen years ago)

i've bought two songs, myself:
"homemade songs" by bobby charles
and the one song by the anglin twins on there, i forget the name

Mike McGonigal (yetimike), Sunday, 31 December 2006 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

iTunes is starting to cockblock that by making more songs "album only"

usually the decision of the label...not iTunes/Apple.

dan selzer (dan selzer), Sunday, 31 December 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

i finally figured out what to do with my itunes gift card... regift it!

friday on the porch (lfam), Tuesday, 2 January 2007 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

ITunes seems to have a lot of Popol Vuh albums that are always way more expensive in record stores and never turn up used.

clotpoll (clotpoll), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 02:53 (nineteen years ago)

You can buy bitches brew (or b*****s brew as they call it) for $19.90
-or-
you can buy all the individual tracks from b*****s brew as found on other miles davis comps for 99 cents a track (still 7 bucks but...)

ianinpdx (ianinpdx), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

pissed jeans 7" on subpop for 1.98!

69 (pete), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

I usually look at Christgau's "choice cuts" (single songs that are worth hearing off of otherwise lackluster albums) and download them...
