i think i will. not like i'm a fanatic or anything. i have never heard the johnny marr & the healers album. and there are probably a bunch of other albums that he has played on that i haven't heard. but for some reason i'm intrigued by this. sorry if there is a big long thread on this. i have never bought a modest mouse album. maria has! i like the antarctica one.

How many ILMers would buy a Marrs Volta album?

LOL, seriously.

Erm, if Marr wound up in TMV I'd seriously consider not buying it. ;-) And I've never actually bought any of their albums, merely borrowed and copied them all from friends...

Johnny Marr's finest work was with one of the genuinely most-underrated acts of all-time, the legendary Matt Johnson (sorry, The The), and even then the two albums they did together were (albeit narrowly) outshone by the two on either side.

I'm buying it, but only 'cuz I'm a Modest Mouse stan -- could give a shit about some Smiths douche, except in so much as his presence is a "change of direction" and thus suggests that this album will not resemble the underwhelming Good News.

Smiths douche

i'm very glad there are others who think this way

Ban Louis Jagger.

oh, so you'd rather that there was no objection to your undying love for The Smiths, and that everyone on this messageboard should share the same views, share the same exact beliefs it's like a fucking army marching in back of me, with the result that no debate is to be had and none of your opinions are to be questioned in any way, shape or form?

Shiiiit, someone doesn't like The Smiths? Fuckin' outcry, dudes, outcry.

pretty sure its cuz most people think you're annoying. c.f. - the post you just made

and what (ooo), Thursday, 28 December 2006 17:53 (seventeen years ago) link

i never heard the last modest mouse album. only the antarctica one. and i like the guitars on that. pretty inventive! and i think marr is a cool riffmaker. so i could see it being good. oh, and i liked that ugly casanova album! that's the other MM-related thing i've heard. i don't know who played guitar on that, but that was pretty cool too.

scott seward (121212), Thursday, 28 December 2006 17:57 (seventeen years ago) link

i knew the eminem quote would tempt ethan out

Johnny Marr in Modest Mouse? I think it's funny. Won't make me buy the record, but you know, I'll burn a copy offa someone. Still, I'd much rather the SD jam with Doug Martsch.

adam beales (pye poudre), Thursday, 28 December 2006 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Like maybe Whipping Post or something.

adam beales (pye poudre), Thursday, 28 December 2006 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Har Marr Super Modest Mouse Star

I wouldn't buy that either.

I'll listen to this MM album though, I don't mind those shouty cranky guitar mousers too much.

YES

nabisco I am sorry but it has already been established that Modest Mouse and Modest Mouse-related topics are the one realm on whose money you simply cannot be.

i'll vouch for that one record of theirs that i like. it's an interesting record. and an ambitious record. and an enjoyable one! and i hate most of that kind of thing. whatever that thing is.

I can't stand Isaac's voice. There was a time I was really into them, but I went back recently and was really bored. Moon and Antarctica sounded like a bunch of guys playing boring songs through "weird" guitar peddles. The only thing I can stand to listen to by them these days is Karma's payment plan and that one album or b sides or whatever it was that had Neverending Math Equation on it.
