Heavy or virtuosic lead guitar in New Pop?

For a piece I'm writing - I appreciate any assistance. Just curious if anyone can think of any examples. Maybe given the music's roots in Roxy Music/Bowie, there were some instances of heavy or virtuosic lead guitar in New Pop?

No Mick Ronsons in New Pop?

I think the rhythmic guitar parts in "Tears Are Not Enough" (ABC) are noteworthy. Then there's Duran Duran's "American Science" (an album track off Notorious) with a sweet lead guitar part. Um, going to have to think of the rest. I think, though, that you'll find the predominant instrument evidenced in New Pop will be the keyboard/piano.

there's a really cool squealy guitar solo on "art of parties" by japan, and i guess masami tsuchiya was pretty virtuosic. but yeah, alan rankine for real.

Oh yes, forgot about Masami Tsuchiya, but then again I think of Japan as being more New Romantic and less New Pop. Alan Rankine -- God, forgot about him. By the time The Associates became more pop-ish, that guitar was less evident, but yes, you're right, the quality of his guitar performances did still shine through. I guess I was trying to think of more overt displays of guitar. Will have to think of more.

Not that familiar with Associates. You guys think this is typical of his style (solo from about 2:45)?

Seems maybe a bit more textural as opposed to classic rock guitar dynamics.

Not that I specified that in initial post! I'm just curious.
