I heard something from Peter A. Schmid & Vinny Golia's Birdology and it wasn't unlistenable.

I went back to look up information on a jazzant-garde type thing I liked on pandora.com, but I accidentally hit remove. I should not operate heavy machinery tonight.

Maria Bethania does some nice songs.

"It's taking longer than expected to figure out the perfect song to play next. . ." I'm not making this up.

Big article about Pandora in the Sunday NY Times Arts & Leisure section. There's a photo of all these Pandora employees in a conference room with headphones hooked up to their computers entering in data. I think that might make me hate music.

You do realize that ILM is often down these days.

Pandora still does not recognize "Zoviet France" :(

However, they DO now recognize The Pop Group, and I got The Minutemen soon afterward which was cool. The bastards are slowly winning me over.

They're hopeless on African music, though. Youssou N'Dour, Salif Keita and Toumani Diabate all came back as unknown.

That's pretty bad. They are hopeless on middle eastern stuff as well. You definitely can't depend on pandora.com to have any old "specialized" music you are into. (I know, it's hard to comprehend how Youssou N'Dour is more "special interest" than some minor indie rock band, or even Faust or something like that.) Some of my happiest discoveries there have been in areas of music I'm not that enthusiastic about &/or up on.

There was some scratchy electronic music playing and I was in the kitchen and then some more scratchy electronic music came on and, hey, this is Throbbing Gristle isn't it? I am almost shocked by how recognizable "I.B.M." is from D.o.A., an album I never listened to that much (as far as I can remember anyway). If there's a version on that 4-CD live TG box-set, that would explain why it's so familiar, since I did listen to that a lot at one time. I still find something comical about how instantly recognizable it is.

The man has been on tour since he was a fetus, so I don't see why being a corpse should stop him

The station I built around Phil Ranelin's "Vibes from the Tribe" keeps playing me shitty smooth jazz and nu-funk.

Wayne Horvitz = thumbs down
Joyce Cooling = thumbs down
Bill Frisell - White Fang = meh
Bob James - Sign of the Times (album name) = I like some of this dude's stuff, but this shit is a little too backgroundy for me

Eddie Harris - Carry On Brother (live) = this is more like it

Also, I just realized it's a DJ Shadow sample

Yeah, I know it's 2007 but fuck a new thread.

I've been having good luck with jazz fusion lately. My "125th Street Congress" station is teaching me that pretty much all Weather Report before Jaco was good. I fucking hate Jaco though. Also, I have to get the Tony Williams Lifetime album "Turn it Over" - holy fuck. Also Wayne Shorter's Native Dancer has at least one sweet cut on it.
